About this position

We are looking for a dynamic, resourceful, and impact-driven Advisory Services Support Consultant (Social Impact). As a consultant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design and implementation of advisory services that strengthen the poverty reduction, inclusion and equal opportunities impact of IDB Lab clients. Your work will contribute to maximizing the social and economic impact of IDB Lab’s investments in Latin America and the Caribbean.

You will work at the Impact Enhancement Program (IEP), part of the SKI Division. The IEP is an IDB Lab initiative to help early-stage companies and VC funds maximize social, environmental, and economic impact through advisory services, tools, and resources. It focuses on IDB Lab’s strategic goals around Poverty and Vulnerability reduction, Inclusion, Environmental sustainability, and equal opportunities.

What you’ll do

Strategic Advisory & Client Engagement

  • Provide technical expertise to integrate social impact strategies into advisory services, focusing on equality, inclusion, and poverty alleviation.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify opportunities for improving social outcomes within their operations and business models.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments to evaluate client readiness, identify gaps, and recommend strategies for inclusive growth and equitable impact.
  • Deliver client diagnostic reports for at least three clients, identifying equal opportunities, inclusion and social outcomes gaps and opportunities.
  • Develop Terms of Reference (ToR) for advisory services, defining scope, objectives, and selecting advisory firms to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Accompany clients and advisory firms throughout service delivery, ensuring alignment with objectives, effective collaboration, and compliance with commitments.

Frameworks, Tools & Capacity Building

  • Develop tools, frameworks, and methodologies to help clients measure, report, and enhance their social impact performance.
  • Support the design and monitoring of actions aimed at improving companies' and social impact.
  • Prepare and deliver at least two capacity-building sessions for clients on social topics relevant to the business, such as social inclusion strategies, fair hiring standards, and improvement of company governance.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops to promote best practices in social impact.

Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide a Mid-Year Progress Report summarizing progress, client feedback, and outcomes from advisory services delivered in the first six months.
  • Support the drafting of a Year-End Report, consolidating key findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for scaling and improving social impact within the Impact Enhancement Services (IES).
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of advisory services, ensuring effective social impact integration.

Program Integration & Collaboration

  • Work with the IEP team to ensure environmental goals are integrated across all program components.

Deliverables and Payments Timeline:

Deliverable # 

1.Consultancy Work Plan, Percentage 15%, planned date to submit May, 2025.

2.Client Diagnostic Reports: Deliver diagnostics for at least three clients, social impact alignment opportunities and capability gaps, Percentage 15%, planned date to submit August 2025.

3.Mid-Year Progress Report: Provide a report summarizing progress, client feedback, and initial outcomes from advisory services delivered during the first six months. Percentage 20% planned date to submit September,2025.

4.Oversight: Provide technical oversight and support to least two clients in integrating social solutions into their operations or products. Act as a liaison between said clients and advisory firms, ensuring quality control and compliance with contractual obligations. Percentage 17% planned date to submit November 2025.

5.Year-End Report: Support on the drafting of a report summarizing outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations for scaling and improving Impact Enhancement Services on the Social Impact end. Percentage 16% planned date to submit January 2025.

6.IES catalogues and tiers: Consolidate insights from advisory work and structure a tiered service catalog to enhance future impact. Provide recommendations for scaling services and ensuring integration into IDB Lab’s broader impact strategy. Support the development of a structured catalog of advisory services, with clear tiers (e.g., Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) to standardize offerings. Percentage 17% planned date to submit April, 2026.

What you'll need

  • Education: Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Public Policy, or other fields relevant to the role’s responsibilities. A master’s degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Between 5 and 8 years of progressive experience in equality, inclusion, poverty alleviation strategies, community development, social impact assessment, or similar fields. Experience working with early-stage companies or venture capital funds in Latin America and the Caribbean is highly desirable. A deep understanding of the sector, including its dynamics, terminology, and investment logic, is required.

  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
