The Technology and Transformation Department’s (TTD) aim is to enhance the agility, efficiency, and effectiveness of the IDB Group with technology, innovation, data, and digital transformation to achieve greater impact. The Technology and Transformation for the Region (TTR) team plays a key role in strengthening the digital components of the Bank’s operations by working closely with operational teams and counterparts in governments and other public institutions. TTR collaborates with these institutions to ensure the safe, sustainable, and effective adoption of digital solutions, tailored to each country’s context, the strategic priorities of the sector, the specific objectives of the project, and the needs of the end users. TTR’s work spans a wide range of technologies digital maturity levels, where the team works towards selecting and applying the technology and promoting digital transformation processes according to the unique challenges and opportunities present in each project and institution.

About this position
We are looking for a motivated, proactive and client-centric Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Consultant with proven expertise in supporting the design, development, and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital solutions and services that can add value to IDB client’s strategic priorities.
As an Artoficial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Consultant, you willl support the advisory services provided to the Sector Operational Teams leveraging technical expertise to ensure: 1) the technical fit between the AI based digital solution and the business objectives; 2) the integration of adoption and sustainability practices; 3) the successful development and implementation of digital solutions, aligned with the institutional and sector-specific contexts; and 4) the exercise of independent technical judgment, including the ability to recommend against a proposed AI solution when the evidence does not support its use. You will work in the Technology and Transformation in the Region team of the Technology and Transformation Department’s (TTD). This team is responsible for playing a key role in strengthening the digital components of the Bank’s operations by working closely with operational teams and counterparts in governments and other public institutions. TTR collaborates with these institutions to ensure the safe, sustainable, and effective adoption of digital solutions, tailored to each country’s context, the strategic priorities of the sector, the specific objectives of the project, and the needs of the end users.
What you’ll do
- Translate operational needs into AI-enabled digital solutions, supporting project preparation, planning, and implementation.
- Research AI case studies, best practices, and lessons learned to improve knowledge sharing and project efficiency.
- Provide guidance on AI implementation, risks, and lifecycle management for digital solutions.
- Review project plans, milestones, and implementation processes to ensure strategic alignment and timely delivery.
- Evaluate AI project documentation, procurement specifications, feasibility, risks, vendor proposals, and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders.
- Develop internal AI advisory assets, including evaluation frameworks, TOR checklists, templates, and guidance materials.
- Support AI advisory frameworks, build AI-enabled tools and workflows, and develop training materials to strengthen internal AI capabilities.
- Coordinate AI and digital transformation initiatives across the IDB Group, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor AI trends, governance, and emerging technologies to provide actionable insights for operations and procurement.
- Identify and mitigate technical, ethical, and regulatory AI risks, ensuring alignment with responsible AI standards and data protection requirements.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the information technology field, of which at least three (3) years delivering AI-based business services and solutions in applied contexts. Demostrated advanced experience and knowledge in AI/ML model development and deployment, large language model (LLM) integration and prompt engineering, automation of analytical workflows, development of internal digital tools AI-powered applications.
- Languages: proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of Portuguese is preferable.
Technical Expertise:
- Experience with cloud computing, digital transformation, and Agile.
- Experience managing IT consulting firms or third-party digital solution implementations, preferably in LAC.
- Experience advising the public sector on AI and digital transformation in LAC.
- Extensive understanding of ethical considerations and responsible use of AI and knowledge of Responsible AI, AI governance/regulation, data protection, and UNESCO/OECD/G20 guidelines.
- Ability to apply AI governance principles to operational requirements and identify implementation risks.
- Experience in similar organizations is preferred.

- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. Must be eligible to work in job location(s) without the need for sponsorship.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
Local Remote Consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility) rendered 100% remotely from place of residence of the selected candidate. Services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
