We improve lives
The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.
About this position
This position will be assigned to the Trade and Investment Division (TIN), which is part of the Productivity, Trade, and Innovation Sector (PTI) under the Vice Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge (VPS) of the IDB. TIN is responsible for providing strategic guidance, analytical support, and operational assistance to the IDB through programs and initiatives that promote trade, investment, and tourism in LAC.
We are looking for a dynamic professional with deep expertise in trade trends and the sustainable tourism market, coupled with strong skills in supporting and guiding technical dialogue and TIN-related projects in these areas. The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, preparing and overseeing loan and grant operations, and producing innovative, high-quality knowledge products to advance TIN’s work program. These activities will be carried out in coordination with the IDB Country Office Representative and other relevant internal stakeholders, and in close collaboration with IDB Lab and IDB Invest.
What you’ll do
- Lead the identification, design, negotiation, and management of TIN’s loan operations and technical cooperation projects in support of a country-specific work program. Additionally, provide technical and analytical support to projects in other countries across the region as needed.
- Maintain continuous and effective dialogue with public and private sector clients to promote TIN’s work program and agenda, while actively developing new business opportunities.
- Contribute to the expansion of the trade and tourism operations portfolio, ensuring strong alignment with PTI’s strategic objectives.
- In coordination with TIN’s division chief, assess the capacity to benefit from trade and tourism at both national, regional and global levels. Identify constraints and propose innovative technical solutions to address them.
- Support multidisciplinary PTI’s teams by providing policy recommendations on trade and tourism-related issues.
- Advise TIN on enhancing the technical quality of policy dialogue, incorporating the best international practices in trade and tourism.
- Support operational knowledge management and sectoral work in TIN’s functional areas, including diagnostics and analysis for national and regional strategic programming processes.
- Support sustainable tourism initiatives at the national and regional levels, in coordination with TIN’s tourism team, promoting approaches that integrate environmental sustainability, social inclusion, gender equality, and competitiveness in TIN’s tourism operations.
- Coordinate training and capacity-building activities with government and private sector leaders to develop and foster high-quality technical knowledge in trade and tourism.
- Build and maintain internal and external networks—within and outside the IDB—that facilitate access to, exchange, and expansion of specialized knowledge in areas relevant to TIN’s work.
