The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.

About this position

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented Education Consultant. In this role, you will provide technical expertise to the Ministry of Education Transformation (MEdT) in the review, validation, and supervisory rollout of the new subjects, ensuring alignment with national educational standards, student-centered teaching practices, and the design, action plan, and operationalization of the National Inclusive Education Policy. A core part of this role is to act as independent technical reviewer of curriculum and inclusive-education deliverables submitted under the Curriculum Reform and Implementation Strategy contract, assessing them for technical quality and pedagogical soundness before they are certified for payment.

You will work in the Division of Education (SCL/EDU) part of the Social Sector Department. This team is responsible for supporting education systems of Latin America and the Caribbean countries to reach five dimensions that will contribute to making them successful in promoting effective teaching and learning among all children and youth.

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical leadership in the review and validation of the new curriculum subjects to ensure pedagogical quality, student-centered practices, and alignment with the Inclusive Education Policy.
  • Serve as independent technical reviewer for deliverables submitted under the Curriculum Reform and Implementation Strategy contract, assessing each against its Terms of Reference and recommending acceptance, revision, or rejection to support MEdT's deliverable certification process.
  • Support the supervision of the phased rollout of the modernized curriculum within participating schools, identifying operational bottlenecks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) to align curriculum implementation and deliverable review with the broader BA-L1053 operation timeline.
  • Review and provide technical feedback on teacher training modules and instructional resources developed for the new subjects, including differentiated instruction and specialized support for students with disabilities, and on Individualized Education Programme (IEP) technical guidelines.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Ministry on the sustainability and scalability of the curriculum and inclusive education reforms beyond the pilot phase.
  • Contribute to technical progress reports and monitoring indicators for the Social Sector department's portfolio, including participation in in-person and online meetings.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Education, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Special/Inclusive Education, or another field relevant to the responsibilities of the role.

  • Experience: At least 10 years of progressive experience in curriculum reform, including experience reviewing or validating curriculum and inclusive education deliverables against formal Terms of Reference.

  • Languages: Proficiency in English.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Barbados or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Barbados.

  • Length of contract: 75 days in a period of 7 months.
