About this position

We are looking for a Climate Change professional with background in environmental sciences, economics, natural resource management (Full Time Consultant). As Full Time Consultant based in the respective country office, you will work on the monitoring and technical activities related to the design, implementation management and mainstreaming of climate change in programming in the Bahamas and the Caribbean region.

 

You will work in The Climate Change Solutions Division part of Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector (CSD). CSD advises IDB management and develops policies, strategies, programs, and guidelines on matters relevant to the sector and its areas of incidence. CSD also conducts relevant sector research, analytical work and case studies on climate and sustainability. As a CSD division, CSD/CCS supports: (i) the mainstreaming of climate change within the IDB, including in its lending operations and (ii) the mainstreaming of climate change within IDB regional membership through the support to ministries of the environment and ministries of finance, economics, and planning. Both work streams share the common goal of strengthening subnational, national, and regional climate policy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

What you’ll do

  1. Contribute to managing a climate change mainstreaming program in the Bahamas.
  2. Provide technical input to the design, preparation and implementation of climate change related operations and non-financial products across a variety of sectors in the Bahamas that respond to countries and stakeholder needs.
  3. Participate in IDB projects including adaptation/mitigation components, providing inputs in the stages of design, structuring and implementation.
  4. Collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders, executing agencies and other IDB departments.
  5. Support any other related activities required by the Climate Change Solutions Division of the IDB.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree in environmental sciences, economics, natural resource management or relevant disciplines, execution and management of operations related to development and climate change.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Working or academic experience with issues related to climate change resilience and environmental sustainability will be strongly preferred. Experience with implementation of projects in the Caribbean region is highly desirable. Experience working with multilateral institutions and preparing projects including both for the public and private sector on climate change, ideally with international sources of climate finance is required Must have an in-depth understanding of climate change and sustainability issues in the Caribbean region.. Must have an advanced understanding of climate finance
  • Languages: Proficiency in English

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
