About this position
The Climate Change Solutions Division is looking for a Concessional Finance Consultant to work in partnership with stakeholders across the IDB-Group and Latin America and the Caribbean to provide technical support in climate finance, project structuring, and management of the climate finance project pipeline with major climate change funds.
You will work for the Climate Change Solutions Division (“CSD/CCS”), which is part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (“CSD”). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support: (i) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the actions and operations of the IDB group and (ii) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the regional countries of the IDB group through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels.
What you’ll do
- Support the origination of concessional finance proposals, including country-specific investment plans, for major providers of concessional finance such as CIF, Adaptation Fund, Long Term Strategy Programme, IKI and MAF.
- Support the preparation of annual and semi-annual reporting for different concessional climate funds.
- Provide technical inputs in the preparation of knowledge products for internal and external audiences, including publications, blogs, and BBLs on topics related to concessional finance.
- Maintain the Climate Finance Team project pipeline database and prepare briefings on its status for management, as required.
- In addition, the consultant will support CSD/CCS other activities on concessional climate finance.
What you'll need
• Education: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Economics, International Development, or a discipline related to climate finance
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with government agencies and local partners, multilateral institutions on projects for both the public and private sector is desirable. Understanding of projects related to climate finance, particularly in relation to multilateral and bilateral concessional funds.
• Languages: Be fluent in both English and Spanish. Competency on a third official language of the Bank (French or Portuguese) is a plus.

• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• Consultant:
- International consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 36 months).
If international, Headquarters (Washington, D.C), whereas if national 100% remotely from place of residence of selected candidate and services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
