About this position

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) wishes to contract the services of an Economics Consultant for its Country Office in Belize. The Consultant will contribute to the IDB’s economic work in Belize by gathering data and information, conducting research and data analysis, and performing other tasks as determined by the Regional Economic Adviser and the Country Economist.

What you’ll do

  • Prepare or assist in preparing the Independent Assessments of Macroeconomic Conditions, briefings, talking points, PowerPoint presentations, and other material for internal and external dissemination related to the CBL’s analytical and programming work.
  • Data compilation, processing, and database development.
  • Contribute to preparing and disseminating the Economics team’s publications, such as Economic Bulletins, reports, monographs, news briefs, and working papers.
  • Support the preparation of the Country Strategy.

 

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, or related discipline with considerable course work in macroeconomics and quantitive methods (e.g., econometrics and statistics). Familiar with standard techniques of econometrics and the use of related software, including STATA.  Knowledge of other coding languages like R or Python is desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum experience of 2 years related area (3 years if include research assistance in an academic setting).
  • Previous experience with the Bank would be highly desirable.
  • Languages: Ability to read, write and speak English, required, and Spanish would be an asset.

Requirements

•    Citizenship:  You are either a citizen of Belize or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Belize.


•    Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National Consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 36 months).
