About this position

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated professional with a background in quantitative analysis, financial planning & analysis, corporate finance and/or risk management for the role of Financial Modelling Sr. Associate/Specialist. 

You will work in our Financial Policy, Planning and Decision Support (FPD) Group, part of IDB’s Finance (FIN) department. FIN is responsible for the mobilization and administration of the Bank's financial resources, pertaining to both the assets and liabilities of the organization, the management of the Bank's liquidity, the accounting and financial records of its operations, and the administration of its relations with financial markets and intermediaries. FPD is responsible for the Bank’s financial planning process, the design and implementation of Bank-wide financial policies and advises Senior Management and the Board of Executive Directors on the financial implications of large or novel programs and how to maximize the value of the Bank’s capital. As Financial Modelling Sr. Associate/Specialist, you will play a core role developing analytical tools and in the delivery of FPD responsibilities.  

What you’ll do

  • Actively contribute to the design, calibration, validation and use of the Bank’s core financial planning tools and models.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead for maintaining and improving the financial models and developing new additional financial tools.
  • Quickly develop detailed knowledge of the Bank’s financial ecosystem (including financial policies, products, systems, and data), and how different parts of the Bank’s operations impact financial planning.
  • Explain complex ideas in easy to understand language.
  • Provide financial analysis in support of periodic updates, reviews, and enhancements of Bank financial policies.
  • Provide technical insight into the Bank’s financial planning and financial policy development.
  • Develop expertise on the criteria and methodology used by credit rating agencies to assess the Bank for incorporation into financial models.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across FIN, the Office of Risk Management, and the Information Technology Department to enhance the data environment and automate processes.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with additional professional studies (or equivalent advanced degree) in Finance, Business Administration, Economics/Econometrics, Mathematics/Statistics, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  A CFA charter, CPA/CA, COQ, FRM or similar professional accreditation is desirable.

•    Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in advanced financial modelling or statistical analysis. Ideally candidates will have experience in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance and/or financial risk management. Prior experience in multilateral lending institutions is desirable.

•    Additional skills: Strong quantitative skills. Numerically fluent and able to discuss quantitative topics. Advanced knowledge of Excel and MATLAB or Python. Languages with transferrable skills can be considered. Advanced knowledge of data and database management. Having experience with SQL, PowerBI, and integration of financial models and dashboards in a corporate database environment is highly desired.

•    Languages:  Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

•    Citizenship: You are a citizen of Colombia.

•    Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National (Local Remote Staff): National staff contract under a fully remote modality, 36 months. This contract is part of a program to hire staff to work fully remotely (not office-based). The program is set to expire at the end of 2028 and it may be extended, if successful.
