The Industries and Cross‑Cutting Themes Department (ICT) manages business and client engagement from an industry perspective. It is composed of six divisions: three focused on core industries (Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions, and Corporates); two focused on cross-cutting themes (Climate and Environment and Gender and Social Inclusion); and one dedicated to Portfolio Management. 

About this position

We are looking for an experienced, proactive and oriented-detailed Green Finance Consultant. The consultant will support advisory services in financial sector in México, Central America and Dominican Republic. She/he will provide technical expertise on sustainable and resilience finance with a thematic knowledge specific support on Sustainable and resilient buildings finance (e.g., EDGE, LEED, local certifications),and help identify investment opportunities that maximize sustainable and resilient finance align to business goals for the financial sector in the relevant region.

 

You will work in the Green Finance team of the Climate and Environment Division (CLE). The division is responsible for integrating climate and environmental sustainability into IDB Invest’s operations to maximize development impact and long-term value for both clients and the institution. CLE enhances transactions with sustainable and resilient smart solutions, identifies sustainable approaches to drive business growth, unlocks new investment opportunities through sustainable and resilient -aligned strategies, and promotes positive market trends by mainstreaming sustainable finance, resilient financial industry, nature, and environmental finance across sectors.

What you’ll do

 

  • Assisting delivery unit teams and operational staff as needed, offering guidance to quantify, report, and advance sustainable and resilient finance in operations prior to approval.
  • Supporting investment officers in preparing and refining client proposals and investment proposals, integrating advisory services to maximize client value, developmental impact, and allocation of sustainable finance.
  • Developing and negotiating CLE advisory proposals and agreements with financial sector clients, fostering value creation, strengthening prudential resilience and competitiveness, expanding sustainable finance, and maximizing developmental impact.
  • Designing terms of reference, managing external consultants, supervising contracted work, ensuring quality control, and delivering high-value outcomes aligned with expected developmental results.
  • Systematizing advisory outcomes through lessons learned and developing relevant public-facing knowledge products.
  • Collaborating proactively with the Blended Finance division to unlock access to concessional finance for IDB Invest clients through advisory services.
  • Leading upstream initiatives through multistakeholder engagement:
  1. Providing thematic and strategic guidance to the CLE team for sustainable and resilient construction sectors in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  2. Conducting upstream market activities with banking and fund manager associations and facilitating synergies with regional or national green building, engineering associations, and councils.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in sustainable development, social or environmental or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  
  • Experience: Between 5 and 9 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, green and sustainable construction, green finance, sustainable taxonomies and financial sector with private financial institutions. Understanding the Climate and Environmental context and implications for Latin America and the Caribbean should be highly valued. Track records on managing private sector regional or national memberships or initiatives to increase sustainability or sustainable finance would be greatly valued. An understanding of the operational work of multilateral institutions as well as an understanding of the operational frameworks of multilateral institutions will be a plus.    
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional  knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable. 

Requirements

  • Citizenship:  Must be eligible to work in Guatemala without the need for sponsorship. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National consultant Full-Time, 24 months (up to 48 months, if applicable).
