We improve lives

IDB Invest is the private sector arm of the IDB Group committed to supporting the sustainable development of Latin America and the Caribbean through the private sector. Our mission is to finance, structure, and mobilize capital for companies and projects that support economic growth, resilience, and long-term development across the region.

IDB Invest operates in 26 countries, structured across four geographic regions and three industry verticals: Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions, and Corporates.

As part of its evolving business model, “Originate to Share,” IDB Invest is expanding its capacity to mobilize private capital and scale development impact across Latin America and the Caribbean, supported by a $3.5 billion capitalization from its shareholders. The model strengthens IDB Invest’s ability to originate high-quality assets, structure innovative financial solutions, and connect global capital with opportunities across the region.

About this position

We are looking for a Digital Transformation and AI Consultant to strengthen IDB Invest’s capacity to identify, structure, supervise, and scale advisory engagements that improve business efficiency through AI-enabled solutions. These include AI agents, agentic AI, intelligent automation, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and RPA-enabled workflows.

The Consultant will work as part of the Digital Transformation Unit and will support client-facing engagements across sectors such as Financial Institutions, Corporates, Agribusiness, Manufacturing, Retail, Insurance, Telecommunications, Infrastructure, and Energy. The Consultant will translate operational pain points into high-value opportunities, including use cases, technical assistance projects, vendor packages, pilot designs, implementation roadmaps, and investment opportunities.

This position requires a hybrid profile that blends business transformation experience with strong technical fluency, responsible AI governance, and disciplined execution. A pure AI engineer profile is not enough for this role. The Consultant must be comfortable engaging with multiple stakeholders, discussing solution architectures with technical teams, ROI and investment logic with CFOs, operating model redesign with COOs, risk controls with compliance and cybersecurity teams, and development impact with IDB Invest stakeholders.

What you’ll do

As a Digital Transformation and AI Consultant, you will help IDB Invest clients improve operational efficiency and advance digital transformation through the strategic and responsible use of AI and automation technologies. Your responsibilities include the following:

  • Assess how organizations operate today to identify where AI can improve efficiency, considering business processes, technology maturity, data quality, automation potential, and expected business value.
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact practical use cases where AI agents, agentic AI, RPA, RAG, workflow orchestration, or virtual assistants can reduce costs, save time, minimize errors, lower rework, and remove operational bottlenecks.
  • Design agentic AI solutions that turn business needs into clear functional and technical blueprints, including agent workflows, tools, APIs, knowledge sources, model choices, RAG approaches, multi-model setups, human oversight, monitoring, fallback mechanisms, and auditability.
  • Build strong business cases that clearly articulate the expected benefits, define baseline KPIs, and assess required investments, operating costs, payback periods, ROI, scalability, and key risks.
  • Support the design and delivery of technical assistances through well‑structured concept notes, terms of reference, request for proposal inputs, evaluation criteria, work plans, budgets, risk inventories, and acceptance standards for deliverables.
  • Guide vendor and ecosystem engagement across the full lifecycle, from market research and shortlisting to technical due diligence, proposal evaluation, contract support, vendor onboarding, and milestone review.
  • Establish and operationalize responsible AI governance, ensuring risk controls, data governance, privacy and cybersecurity safeguards, transparency and explainability, continuous monitoring, model evaluation practices, incident handling, and human oversight.
  • Provide hands‑on support during pilot implementations, overseeing execution, coordinating agile teams, validating technical and business outcomes, managing risks and issues, aligning stakeholders, and preparing for go‑live.
  • Assess impact and support scale‑up efforts through before‑and‑after evaluations, lessons learned, scale‑up roadmaps, and connections to relevant financing options.
  • Strengthen internal capabilities through knowledge transfer, including tools, playbooks, workshops, training materials, and case studies that enhance IDB Invest’s advisory practice.

In addition, the Consultant will help maintain a strong pipeline of AI‑enabled efficiency opportunities, supported by clear value hypotheses, sector relevance, readiness levels, development impact, and financing potential. The role also includes crafting clear, compelling narratives for senior executives, helping decision‑makers understand how operational efficiency gains translate into competitiveness, risk reduction, sustainability outcomes, and specific investment priorities.

Beyond individual engagements, the Consultant will contribute to strengthening the Digital Transformation Unit’s advisory offering as a whole. This involves developing reusable tools, methodologies, templates, and sector‑specific use‑case libraries that allow successful approaches to be replicated and scaled. The role also requires staying closely connected to emerging trends in Agentic AI, automation, AI governance, and cybersecurity, ensuring that advisory work remains relevant, practical, and aligned with the evolving needs of private‑sector clients in the region.
