IDB Invest operates in 26 countries, structured across four geographic regions and three industry verticals: Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Intermediaries, and Corporates.
Our shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization. This will allow IDB Invest to significantly scale up its investments, nearly doubling annual financing from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion, and unlocking greater private sector participation to drive development and climate impact across the region.
IDB Invest has reorganized its structure to implement this new business model, creating the Financial Solutions, Mobilization, and Asset Sharing (FSM) Department. This department will support the industries and regions department in structuring transactions, mobilizing assets for investors, and managing the equity business.
About this position
The FSM Department is establishing a Talent Pipeline of highly qualified professionals, ready-to-hire Senior Associates and Investment Officers to strengthen the Equity & Mezzanine Division. This talent pool will enable the division to respond rapidly to emerging business needs and support growth initiatives with pre-vetted professionals.
Ideal candidates will possess robust financial and investment analysis skills, along with demonstrated expertise in equity investment and/or mezzanine financing.
Members of the pool will contribute to the origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring of innovative financial solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engaging diverse stakeholders.
What you’ll do
As senior associate, your key responsibilities will be to:
- Conduct data gathering and in-depth investment analysis on complex financial transactions and projects.
- Build comprehensive financial models incorporating historical performance and forward-looking projections across all three financial statements to support investment decision-making.
- Provide content and input to concept notes and investment/credit proposals for committee approvals.
- Support portfolio analyses by monitoring performance metrics, financial analysis, drafting reporting memos, and coordinating data requests. ; prepare recommendations and escalate issues as needed.
- Perform external analysis of financial, market, and technological trends relevant to financial products.
- Support in the coordination of due diligence to gather the necessary technical, legal, economic, and financial information to verify the merits of potential investment/financial opportunities.
- Perform and/or review valuations of private equity and/or mezzanine (when applicable) transactions.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above for the Senior Associate role, as an Investment Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing rigorous sector and financial analysis on complex projects, processes, or financial transactions.
- Structuring, and implements transactions with the help of senior investment officers and external and internal counsel in a way that is consistent with IDB Invest’s operating policies.
- Engaging in consultations with internal/external clients to determine business and product needs.
- Reviewing deliverables, managing implementation issues, and contributing to client-facing presentations.
- Developing technical capabilities and expertise in assigned area.
- Maintaining knowledge of industry and transactions including the preparation of lessons learned from projects.
- Supporting in pipeline screening and pipeline generation for equity & mezzanine transactions.
- Participating in industry events to gather asset class knowledge and building pipeline.
Specific Expertise:
- Demonstrated skills in originating, structuring, and executing equity/mezzanine transactions, including performing private equity valuations using generally accepted valuation methodologies
- Demonstrated skills in financial analysis and modelling.
- Track record of engaging in due diligence, industry research, and relationship-building with private sector development communities.
- Conduct appraisal meetings to gather the necessary technical, legal, economic and financial information to assess the merits of potential investment opportunities as required.
- Builds technical expertise and disseminates such knowledge across relevant areas of the organization
What you'll need
- Education: You hold at least a Master’s degree, or equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or other relevant field.
- Experience: for a Senior Associate at least 3 years and for an Investment Officer at least 5 years of relevant professional experience at a financial institution, corporation, investment fund, multilateral development bank or other relevant private sector entity is required.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is desirable.
- Technical: Strong proficiency in using Excel including developing and operating complex financial models for both debt and equity investments, and other Microsoft Suite products (Word, Powerpoint). Also familiar with industry leading research portals (Pitchbook, CapitalIQ, etc)
Requirements
- Citizenship: You are either a citizen of any of our Country Offices’ locations or a non-citizen eligible to obtain residency or authorization to work in the country in which you are to be assigned without the need for sponsorship by IDB Invest.
- Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
