About this position
We are looking for a self-motivated, dynamic and results oriented individual for the position of Operations Associate/Senior Associate who will work within several multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure effective and efficient planning and execution of important development projects that will be aligned to the IDB mandate in the country.
You will work in the IDB Country Office of Belize, which is part of the Country Department for Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. This team is responsible for the identification, development and implementation of project, programs, studies or activities within Belize, and in collaboration with the region.
What you’ll do
- Perform activities requiring applied technical knowledge and general understanding of the business area.
- Conduct and/or coordinate moderately complex research and analysis.
- Provide inputs into the identification, development and implementation of projects, programs, studies or activities – May lead projects of moderate complexity or scope.
- Lead discrete activities in support of larger projects or programs.
- Provide procedural and/or task guidance to more junior staff.
- Effectively use IDB tools and methodologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve tools and methodologies in technical areas.
- Work under limited supervision of others
- May work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate work within and beyond own unit.
- Advise and support the project team with respect to the project execution planning (PEP), based on international standards related to project management.
- Actively participate in the realization of the risk analysis of the project and contribute to the preparation and implementation of risk management plan and its monitoring.
What you'll need
• Education: Master’s degree in economics, business administration, law, social science, or similar discipline. Certification in Project Management (PMP) or any other relevant certification such as ACP, CPA, CFA, etc. would be an asset.
• Experience: At least 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in administration of projects financed by multilateral development institutions or other external donors. Knowledge of national and IDB procurement policies, norms or practices and experience in writing reports is a plus.
• Languages: Proficiency in English. A working knowledge in Spanish is required.

• Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Belize or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Belize.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
