We improve lives

The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.

About this position

The IDB is seeking to fill an Oversight, Audit and Compliance Lead Specialist position to work in the Office of the Executive Auditor (AUG). You will report directly or indirectly to the Executive Auditor, who reports to the President and to the Board through its Audit Committee.

AUG is an independent assurance and advisory services provider guided by international audit standards. AUG is committed to influence the strengthening of governance, risk management, and control processes that help the IDB Group accomplish its objectives. Integrity, professionalism, objectivity, and confidentiality in the provision of valuable services are the cornerstones of our activities.

What you’ll do

  1. Contribute to establishing AUG’s strategic direction and objectives, including dynamic risk assessments and audit plans for the IDB Group, as well as lead the execution of said audit plans.
  2. Lead and supervise teams that conduct assurance and advisory engagements of high complexity: set objectives, review and approve audit programs, and oversee all phases of the projects to keep work focused on areas with the greatest impact on business performance.
  3. Demonstrate leadership skills by communicating effectively, handling difficult conversations, and providing timely and constructive feedback. Show resilience and sound judgment on complex and sensitive issues, make firm decisions when needed, and use diplomacy while challenging assumptions to reach the best solutions for the organization.
  4. Coach and mentor AUG staff and consultants to strengthen both technical and human skills.
  5. Represent AUG internally and externally and build and maintain networks to access and expand knowledge.
  6. Support the preparation and delivery of audit presentations to Senior Management and to the Board through the Audit Committees.
  7. Collaborate with other oversight offices, risk management functions, and external auditors to enhance the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control processes across the IDB Group.
  8. Foster knowledge sharing and innovation across the AUG team, by creating an environment where new ideas are encouraged, challenging teams in areas of less expertise, and building on best practices to generate and disseminate knowledge in areas of expertise.
  9. Provide strategic insights and advice on key IDB Group initiatives, organizational changes, and emerging risks.
  10. Work independently by managing responsibilities and delivering results with minimal supervision while upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management Information Systems, or other related fields including program development, monitoring, business analysis, etc. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.

•    Experience: At least 6 years of relevant professional experience, preferrably 10 years of experience, delivering best practice internal audit services in development institutions. An advanced understanding of risks, demonstrated through experience in second line roles, is highly desirable.

•    Languages:  Proficient in English and Spanish (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and Portuguese is useful.

Requirements
