About this position
We are looking for a talented young economist research assistant. As a research assistant, you will provide support to the Country Economist in their activities of macroeconomic monitoring, analysis, and applied research on a diverse range of economic and social development topics of Suriname.
You will work in the Country Office of Suriname as part of The Caribbean Group Countries Department (CCB). This team is responsible for providing loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing countries in The Caribbean.
What you’ll do
- Develop and manage comprehensive databases of macroeconomic, financial, and social indicators to support country diagnostics, policy analysis, and evidence-based dialogue.
- Conduct advanced macroeconomic analyses, including debt sustainability assessments, external sector diagnostics, and scenario simulations, applying graduate-level economic frameworks.
- Prepare high-quality analytical reports and policy briefs on economic, social, and political developments, synthesizing complex information into clear, actionable insights.
- Provide technical and analytical contributions to research projects, including research design, data collection, econometric modeling, and interpretation of results.
- Design professional presentations and data visualizations to effectively communicate analytical findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Undertake systematic literature reviews and apply relevant theoretical and empirical frameworks to inform research and policy recommendations.
- Perform rigorous statistical and econometric analysis using STATA (and/or similar tools), ensuring methodological soundness and robustness of results.
- Support the organization and delivery of technical workshops, seminars, and policy dialogues, including preparation of background materials and coordination with stakeholders.
- Apply advanced economic concepts and quantitative methods consistent with graduate-level training in economics, finance, or a related field
What you'll need
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics or other fields relevant to the responsabilities of the role.
• Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in economic research and macroeconomic analysis.
• Languages: Proficiency in Dutch and advanced level of English, spoken and written.
Requirements
Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. Must be eligible to work in job location(s) without the need for sponsorship.
Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months).
