About this position

We are looking for a strategic, client-oriented, and results-driven Financial Sector (Senior) Specialist to support the IDB’s financial-sector dialogue and operational program in Ecuador, contributing to the design, preparation, supervision, and implementation of sovereign-guaranteed operations, technical-cooperation programs, and financial-sector reforms. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting the Bank’s engagement with government counterparts while helping identify and operationalize innovative financing solutions and reforms that support productive development, financial inclusion, resilience, sustainable finance, and capital-market development.

The Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division (CMF) strengthens public-sector financial institutions and capital markets to mobilize resources and catalyze private investment. We emphasize innovative financial structures and solutions that advance inclusive, sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean.

What you’ll do

  • Lead or contribute to the identification, preparation, and supervision of sovereign-guaranteed loan, guarantee, investment-grant, and technical-cooperation operations in Ecuador.
  • Support implementation and supervision of ongoing operations, helping resolve operational bottlenecks and strengthen execution capacity, focusing on achieving development effectiveness and capturing lessons learned for the design of future operation.
  • Consolidate and analyze portfolio data, including results-matrix indicators and project performance metrics, to produce impact briefs, donor reports, and inputs that inform operational decisions and demonstrate development results.
  • Maintain continuous dialogue with ministries, central bank, public development banks, financial regulators, and other counterparts.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with multilateral, bilateral, and private-sector counterparts, maintaining continuous coordination and contribute to the mobilization of grants or co-financing resources.
  • Contribute to country strategy execution and identification of operational opportunities aligned with Ecuador’s priorities and contribute to the knowledge agenda.
  • Participate or represent the Bank in technical discussions, workshops, and strategic meetings related to the financial sector.  
  • Coordinate closely with the Ecuador Country Office, IDB Invest, IDB Lab, and sector teams and promote cross-sector collaboration, sharing knowledge and ensuring alignment with other Bank activities and initiatives.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master's degree or equivalent, in economics, finance, public administration, law or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  

•    Experience: At least 4 years (7 preferably) of relevant professional and international experience designing or supervising financial sector operations or technical assistance projects. Experience in regulations and working with public development banks and/or applying advanced financial structuring or engineering in Latin America and the Caribbean is highly desirable.

•    Languages:  Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
