About this position

We are looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven Economic Opportunities Advisory Consultant.  As an Economic Opportunities Advisory Consultant, you will drive the implementation and evolution of IDB Invest’s MSME and Poverty Alleviation Roadmaps through high-impact advisory interventions that originate and enhance private sector operations:

  • Expand market reach: Support clients in identifying and serving excluded or underserved segments, unlocking new business opportunities and revenue streams.
  • Strengthen competitiveness and value chains: Enable MSME integration into resilient and diversified value chains that drive sustainable growth.
  • Develop future-ready talent: Support clients in building inclusive, skilled workforces aligned with evolving market needs.
  • Strengthen social license to operate: Help clients build inclusive business practices that enhance stakeholder trust, shared value and long-term sustainability.
  • Accelerate digital adoption and innovation: Promote solutions that enhance MSME productivity, financial health, and access to markets.

 

In addition, the Consultant will contribute to the institutionalization of the Social Opportunities Analysis framework across private-sector operations, providing strategic inputs to investment teams and refining tools, methodologies, and workflows as the approach scales.

 

You will work in the Economic Opportunities Division. This division is responsible for fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth by working together with private sector clients to amplify economic opportunities for all. Through direct support to clients, as well as market level initiatives, the team is committed to women’s economic empowerment, unleashing MSMEs potential, and advancing the economic inclusion of excluded, underserved or underrepresented individuals.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and scope new advisory opportunities that add value to IDB Invest’s clients and portfolio, in close collaboration with industry and regional teams.
  • Lead or support the structuring of advisory engagements, including client proposals, concept notes, and implementation proposals.
  • Advise clients and internal teams on integrating inclusive business models into investment operations.
  • Manage relationships with clients and implementation partners, ensuring effective communication, timely delivery, and quality control.
  • Lead or contribute to the design and facilitation of workshops, training, and capacity-building sessions with staff and with clients to foster the adoption of inclusive and sustainable practices.
  • Conduct social analyses to identify risks, opportunities, and potential for business and impact value creation.
  • Develop or improve tools that facilitate social analysis processes.

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, International Development Studies, Economics, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: Between 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in advisory, private sector development, financial institutions, consulting, or related fields, with knowledge of inclusive business models, MSME financing, or social impact preferred.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional    knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.    

Requirements

  • CitizenshipMust be eligible to work in job locations without the need for sponsorship. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National consultant Full-Time, 36 months (up to 48 months, if applicable).
