About this position

We are seeking an experienced and analytical Risk Management Special Assets Consultant with a proven track record in designing and executing recovery strategies across a diverse range of projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. As a Risk Management Special Assets Consultant, you will work on strategies focused on rescheduling, restructuring, workouts, and settlements for projects of varying sizes across different industries.

You will work in the Special Assets Division (SAT) department. This team is responsible for leading recovery efforts for non-performing and under-performing assets within a portfolio that includes private sector loans, guarantees, and equity operations. SAT’s mission is to ensure efficient and effective resolution strategies that safeguard institutional interests. In addition, SAT is responsible for sharing knowledge and lessons learned throughout the organization to turn them into best practices.

What you will do

  • Support the analysis and management of distressed and non‑performing exposures across jurisdictions.
  • Analyze financial, operational, and collateral performance, including cash‑flow‑based recovery scenarios.
  • Coordinate negotiations with counterparts pursuant to approved strategies and implementation of actions to mitigate potential and actual risks and support other senior officers in these efforts.
  • Support the development and execution of restructuring, enforcement, exit, and recovery strategies, and assist senior officers in implementing approved actions for special assets.
  • Promote management information tools related to special assets supervision and dissemination of lessons learned from recovery activities.
  • Contribute to the supervision of coordination with the Portfolio Management Division, Credit Risk Management Division, the Environmental, Social and Governance Division, as well as IDB Invest Management and Board of Executive Directors.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in law, finance, accounting, or equivalent field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience with multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, commercial banking, or financial advisory is preferred, along with a strong background in impaired project finance, corporates, and financial intermediaries. Solid expertise in financial and legal transactions is essential for shaping effective recovery strategies. 
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written is required. 

Requirements

  • Citizenship: No requirements.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National consultant Full-Time, 36 months (up to 48 months subject to elegibility).
