About this position
We are looking for a dynamic professional to support the Portfolio Management Division in monitoring, from signature to repayment, a portfolio of loans, bonds and guarantees to private sector and non-sovereign guaranteed infrastructure and energy clients in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. As Portfolio Management Senior Officer, you will be the central point of contact for the clients assigned to your portfolio, conducting regular and ad-hoc analysis of your counterparts’ performance, identifying breaches, and proposing solutions to resolve contractual events, thereby ensuring the stability and financial health of IDB Invest’s portfolio. In addition, you will support the Portfolio Head of Infrastructure and Energy and the coordinator of Infrastructure and Energy for the Southern Cone in mentoring human capital.
You will work in the Portfolio Management Division, part of the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department. This team is responsible for managing and supervising IDB Invest’s portfolio in the region.
What you’ll do
Under the supervision of the Portfolio Head of Infrastructure & Energy projects, the position’s main responsibilities involve:
- Manage ongoing relationships with clients, agents, B-lenders, co-lenders and other parties involved in assigned portfolio transactions to ensure proper supervision.
- Monitor periodic information, including trends in the global financial markets, country-specific economic situation and events, and industry / market / regulatory developments, to evaluate their impact on IDB Invest’s counterparts and portfolio.
- Conduct regular and ad-hoc analysis of financial statements and performance and prepare high-quality periodic supervision reports and risk rating proposals.
- Assess credit, integrity, environmental & social risk, and track and contribute to the development effectiveness standing of transactions under supervision.
- Ensure compliance with IDB Invest’s internal policies and guidelines by liaising closely with internal teams.
- Take proactive measures to protect IDB Invest’s interests and manage compliance with contracts and covenants. Timely respond to client’s requests for portfolio actions, including evaluating, negotiating, and processing required disbursements, waivers, amendments, and consents.
- Provide guidance to other Portfolio Management Officers in the Southern Cone region to ensure accuracy and quality of internal supervision reports and the technical and business soundness of proposed solutions to clients’ requests or transaction issues.
- Prepare and disseminate market intelligence and lessons learned from supervised projects to internal audiences. Collaborate with project teams by providing recommendations to the structure and legal documentation of new transactions.
- Propose and lead actions to improve and streamline internal processes.
- Participate and contribute to corporate initiatives.
What you'll need
Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Development Studies, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: At least five (5) years of progressive experience in supervision, structuring, credit assessment and/or rating of corporate and/or project finance counterparts, gained within a development financial institution, commercial or investment bank, financial advisory firms and/or rating agencies.
Candidates should possess a clear understanding of the operational work of IDB Invest or similar multilateral institution. Sector knowledge in the industries in which IDB Invest operates as well as experience in an international environment, preferably in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Languages: Proficiency English and Portuguese, spoken and written, is required. Spanish is considered a plus.
Requirements
Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Brazil of with residency or legal permit to work in Brazil.
Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
