About this position

We are looking for a proactive and dynamic Education Senior Associate/Specialist to support the management of the IDB’s education portfolio in Belize. As a key member of the Education Division, you will contribute to the implementation and supervision of the current portfolio of grants and technical cooperation operations, coordinate strategic sector dialogue with the government and key stakeholders, and support the promotion of the IDB’s education initiatives in Belize.

You will work within the Education Division, part of the IDB’s Social Sector, in close collaboration with the Country Office. The Education Division supports education systems across Latin America and the Caribbean by generating knowledge, fostering innovation in the sector, and maintaining continuous dialogue with governments, civil society, and the Bank’s technical and financial partners to advance education development in the region

What you’ll do

  • Lead and contribute to the Bank’s dialogue with executing agencies to support the planning and implementation of programs, applying advanced technical knowledge, tools, and project management methodologies.
  • Identify, develop, and implement projects, programs, studies, and complex activities in the education sector in Belize, working in multidisciplinary teams under moderate supervision.
  • Conduct and coordinate research and analytical work, contributing to the development of innovative knowledge products and technical notes related to the education sector in Belize.
  • Participate in and lead policy dialogue with the Government of Belize, donors, and other key stakeholders, proposing innovative solutions based on cross-country experience and political economy analysis.
  • Collaborate with country-based colleagues from the Education Division and other sectors to design and implement multisectoral programs aligned with the Bank’s institutional strategy.
  • Establish and strengthen strategic networks with international and local technical and financial partners to advance the Bank’s mission and objectives, in line with the Sector Framework Document.
  • Develop and promote innovative approaches, policy reforms, and strategic changes on key education issues to improve learning outcomes and equity in the region.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to strengthen education sector performance, enhance project design quality, and increase the impact of the Division’s operational work.
  • Design and apply risk assessment frameworks and mitigation strategies to anticipate implementation challenges and ensure the effective delivery of complex projects and programs.
  • Develop and apply monitoring and evaluation methodologies to measure project results and operational impact, ensuring alignment with the IDB’s quality and accountability standards.
  • Lead and facilitate change management processes by engaging key stakeholders, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting the adoption of innovative education reforms.
  • Promote learning and knowledge exchange across countries by leveraging regional evidence, lessons learned, and best practices to inform project design, policy recommendations, and sector strategies.

 

Those demonstrating deeper subject-matter expertise gained through experience will be considered for Specialist. 

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in education, economics, public administration, public policy, sociology, or other fiels relevant to the responsibilities of the role. 
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the education sector in developing countries, including the promotion, programming, design, financing, supervision, implementation, and evaluation of education projects.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English, spoken and written, is required. Knowledge of Spanish is preferable.

  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

•    International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
