About this position
We are looking for a professional with the objective of supporting the development of the Bank's agenda in solid waste management and circular economy. As a Water and Sanitation Consultant, you will contribute in the preparation and implementation of the Division’s loan and technical cooperation operations, the knowledge and institutional strengthening agenda in solid waste management and circular economy, and the Too Good to Waste initiative.
You will work in the Water and Sanitation Division (WSA), part of the Infrastructure and Energy (INE) department. This team seeks to ensure universal and sustainable access to high-quality water, sanitation, and solid waste management services to contribute to the sustainable economic growth of our member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and a better quality of life for their citizens. The contract will be supervised by Magda Correal (magdac@iadb.org), Senior Specialist of the Water and Sanitation Division (INE/WSA).
What you’ll do
- Coordinate the design and execution of technical cooperations and loan operations related to solid waste management (SWM). This includes provide advice on the process of gathering information, analysis and drafting of documents, preparation, review of procurement processes, product review, coordination and preparation of dissemination and knowledge exchange spaces, as well as the preparation of physical and financial progress reports and compliance with Bank policies, among others.
- Advise in the preparation of Terms of Reference for the hiring of individual consultants or consulting firms and the formalization of partnerships, as well as advise the corresponding review and supervision process.
- Coordinate the management, dissemination, and implementation of INE/WSA knowledge and institutional strengthening tools associated with solid waste management and circular economy in the preparation and execution of Bank operations.
- Advise the coordination and dialogue with other INE/WSA activities and other areas of the Bank, IDB Lab, and IDB Invest.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in engineering (civil, environmental, industrial, sanitary, logistics), economics, administration, law, public policy, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least ten (10) years of experience in the solid waste and circular economy sector. Specific experience in the design, construction, and implementation of waste management projects. Experience in the execution of projects financed by multilateral organizations is a plus.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, is required.

Type of contract and duration
- International consultant Full-Time, 18 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
