About this position

We are looking for proactive, detail-oriented, and analytical education policy consultant. As an education policy consultant, you will be on research related to the efficiency and equity of resource allocation, how school systems raise educational resources, allocate them, and invest and monitor them.

You will work in our Education Division part of the Social Sector department. This team is responsible for advancing its research and operations agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean Region, and spearheads our research and technical assistance efforts.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to the Division's smart spending agenda through research, policy analysis, and operational support, with a focus on spending efficiency and student and teacher allocation systems.
  • Guide the collaboration on projects leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies to improve teacher attraction, retention, and skills, as well as strengthen student trajectories, including project conceptualization, implementation support, and evaluation design and execution.
  • Conduct stakeholder engagement with governments and technology firms through meeting coordination, agenda preparation, documentation of outcomes, and additional project management tasks as needed.
  • Bolster our research and technical assistance initiatives centered around the efficiency and equity of resource allocation.
  • Work on using techniques from new technologies - such as machine learning - to improve resource allocation and educational outcomes.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Public Policy, Education, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. 
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in public policy​ or education.
  • LanguagesProficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
