About this position
We are looking for a motivated, high-performing, and collaborative Climate Change Strategy Consultant. In this role, you will support the advancement of key policies and investment approaches that enable the alignment of operations to the Paris Agreement and foster other key priorities of the sustainability agenda at the IDB.
You will work for the Climate Change Solutions Division (“CSD/CCS”), which is part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (“CSD”). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support: (i) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the actions and operations of the IDB group and (ii) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the regional countries of the IDB group through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels.
What you’ll do
- Develop inputs and coordinate actions to foster policy engagement and dialogue within the IDB Group that are supportive of its commitment to Paris Alignment and the broader sustainability agenda as established in its new Institutional Strategy.
- Support the drafting and reporting of actions under the IDB Group Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP).
- Assist in the coordination with relevant units in charge of additional Cros-Sectorial Action Plans, fostering synergistic approaches to acting and reporting on climate, nature and disaster risk management.
- Collaborate in the provision of inputs and dialogue with relevant departments regarding the IDB Sustainability Report; provide strategic insights in the process of aligning to ISSB Standards (particularly IFRS 2).
- Assist the process aligning operations to the Paris Agreement, in accordance with IDB’s procedures, the IDB Group Paris Alignment Implementation Approach (PAIA), and sectorial technical guidance.
- Systematize data used for climate-related reporting relevant to the functions of this role.
- Actively collaborate with climate change personnel in reaching/supporting common conclusions on how to ensure PA alignment in new operations, and creating links to the broader sustainability agenda in a programmatic manner.
- Help consolidate knowledge products and build capacities regarding climate action mainstreaming across IDB operations.
- Other related tasks as required to fulfill the objectives of the role.
What you'll need
- Education: Masters in economics, environmental engineering, natural resources management, public policy, international development, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in climate and/or environmental policy design and implementation. Excellent writing skills are a requirement. Knowledge of financial sustainability and climate disclosure standards and strong data management skills are a plus.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• Consultant:
- International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
If international, Headquarters (Washington, D.C), whereas if national 100% remotely from place of residence of selected candidate and services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
