About this position
The Vice Presidency of Finance (VPF) is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist / Senior Specialist to support the effective communication of its priorities, initiatives, and results within the international financial context. This role requires a strategic and collaborative professional who can operate effectively in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment and contribute to strengthening the clarity, consistency, and reach of the Vice Presidency’s communications. The position involves close interaction with senior leadership and institutional counterparts, requiring sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to navigate sensitive contexts. The ideal professional will bring a deep understanding of strategic communications in international financial institutions, along with strong analytical and interpersonal skills to support high-level communication efforts in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
What you’ll do
Communications Strategy
- Lead the design and implementation of the external communication strategy for the Vice Presidency of Finance (VPF), ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
- Develop strategic narratives and key messages to position the VPF with external audiences, including media, international organizations, and think tanks.
- Monitor global financial trends and debates to identify positioning opportunities and emerging issues.
- Assess the impact of communication efforts and recommend actions to strengthen visibility and influence.
Stakeholder Engagement and Institutional Coordination
- Identify and promote strategic visibility opportunities in international forums, high-level events, and specialized publications.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media and research centers.
- Coordinate with the External Affairs and Communications Department (EXC) to ensure consistency with institutional messaging and compliance with communication guidelines.
Strategic Advisory and Reputation management
- Guides the Vice President on public positioning and thought leadership on financial and development issues.
- Provide guidance during crisis situations to ensure timely, accurate, and coordinated communication that safeguards institutional reputation.
Content Development
- Develop high-level communication materials, including speeches, talking points, presentations, and articles.
- Translate complex financial and technical content into clear, strategic messages for external audiences.
Digital Communications
- Manage and strengthen the digital presence of the Vice President and the VPF across relevant platforms to enhance engagement and positioning.
What you'll need
• Education: Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, International Development, or a related field.
• Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, in communications and/or external affairs matters in private or public national/international organizations. Experience in a multilateral development bank or in developing regions is preferred.
- Proven track record in strategic communications, particularly in economics and finance sectors, and with a demonstrated ability to design, and implement communication initiatives aligned with institutional objectives.
• Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
Requirements
• Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• Staff: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
