About this position
We are looking for an analytical, innovative and detail-oriented data analyst to join the Regional and Sectoral Data Group within our Research Department.
The Regional and Sectoral Data Group (RSD) coordinates and supports the efficient management and governance of regional and sectoral data generated or obtained through research, knowledge, and operational work that is not produced in the Bank’s systems nor owned by the Bank but falls under the responsibility and/or custody of the IDB. This includes both traditional (censuses, surveys, administrative records) and non-traditional (social networks, digital footprints, satellite imagery, etc.) data sources extensively used across various departments.
This group ensures data integrity, accessibility, and compliance while supporting advanced analytics and metadata management.
To strengthen these efforts, we are looking for a Data Analyst to support a Data Scientist in data wrangling, metadata analysis, and data transformation. The analyst will primarily work behind the scenes, ensuring data is properly structured, cleaned, and prepared for advanced modeling and research.
What you’ll do
- Clean, transform, and prepare structured and unstructured datasets for advanced analysis
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency through validation, deduplication, and anomaly detection
- Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making
- Support the standardization and harmonization of datasets to improve comparability across sources
- Work with data scientists to develop statistical models to support research and operational insights
- Analyze and manage metadata to support data discoverability, classification, and governance efforts
- Contribute to best practices and automation strategies for data analysis and governance
What you'll need
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics or a related field (required).
• Experience: At least 4 years of experience in data analysis, data wrangling, or metadata management.
• Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish; additional knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python for data processing (Pandas, NumPy, PySpark)
- Experience with SQL for querying and managing relational databases
- Knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, and data governance principles
- Understanding of statistical methods for data profiling, validation, and analysis
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik)
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple data-related tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication for documentation and collaboration
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in data science, engineering, and governance
Requirements
• Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• International consultant full-Time, 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 36 months
