About this position
We are looking for a meticulous, communicative and strategic data governance consultant to join the Regional and Sectoral Data Group within our Research Department.
The Regional and Sectoral Data Group (RSD) coordinates and supports the efficient management and governance of regional and sectoral data generated or obtained through research, knowledge, and operational work that is not produced in the Bank’s systems nor owned by the Bank but falls under the responsibility and/or custody of the IDB. This includes both traditional (censuses, surveys, administrative records) and non-traditional (social networks, digital footprints, satellite imagery, etc.) data sources extensively used across various departments.
As part of the Data Governance Structure (DGS), the group enforces best practices in data stewardship, metadata management, security, and compliance to enhance data accessibility and usability.
To support these efforts, the RSD seeks a data governance consultant to assist in the adherence of governance frameworks, data quality initiatives, and compliance monitoring. The consultant will work closely with the Data Governance Specialist, executing day-to-day governance tasks and ensuring alignment with institutional policies.
What you’ll do
- Support the implementation and adherence to data governance policies, processes, and best practices
- Contribute to governance documentation, including standards, procedures, data dictionaries, and support training efforts to enhance data literacy
- Maintain and enhance metadata management and data catalog tools to improve data discoverability and reuse
- Support data stewardship by assisting with the definition of data ownership roles and establishing accountability and quality oversight processes
- Assist in assessing data quality, resolving inconsistencies, and enabling lineage tracking and validation
- Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements through proper controls and monitoring
- Collaborate with data governance professionals, data engineers, and IT teams to embed governance in data pipelines and architecture
- Contribute to cross-functional coordination to ensure consistent application of governance across sectoral departments
What you'll need
• Education: Bachellor’s degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field (required).
• Experience: At least 4 years of experience in years of experience in data governance, data management, or compliance-related roles.
• Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish; additional knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
Skills
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, metadata management, and security policies
- Experience with data cataloging, data classification, and data lineage tracking tools
- Familiarity with data privacy and compliance regulations
- Ability to collaborate with IT, data engineers, and analysts to integrate governance policies
- Knowledge of data integration tools for governance reporting
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving governance needs
- Organized, proactive, and results-driven mindset
Requirements
• Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.

Type of contract and duration
• International consultant Full-Time, 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 36 months
