About this position

The Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration leads the Bank’s engagement with borrowing member countries and advances regional integration across Latin America and the Caribbean.

To achieve this, VPC formulates country and regional strategies, oversees the public sector operational program, supports the development of the non-sovereign guaranteed program, and coordinates flagship regional programs. It also manages the Regional Public Goods Program and fosters regional integration knowledge.

The Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration is seeking a dynamic and motivated Economist to support the Principal Economic Advisor of the Front Office in coordinating the implementation of the knowledge agenda across country departments and sectors. The selected candidate will play a key role in aligning knowledge production with strategic priorities, supporting the application of Country Development Indicators (CDIs), and contributing to the design, content and coordination of institutional knowledge products.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technical analysis, operational coordination, and strategic knowledge management, ideal for professionals interested in working in a front office role and contributing to corporate knowledge and cross-departmental collaboration, including with VPS and other Bank Windows.

What you’ll do

Under the supervision of the Principal Economic Advisor, you will:

  • Coordinate the implementation of the knowledge agenda across VPC, working closely with REAs, country economists, Regional Program Coordinators, sector specialists, and other units.
  • Provide technical and analytical support on strategic knowledge products, including diagnostics, publications, and policy notes.
  • Support the implementation of CDIs by guiding country and sector teams on methodological application and prioritization of policy areas.
  • Contribute to the mapping and tracking of knowledge products across departments and countries to ensure alignment and avoid duplication.
  • Contribute to the generation and implementation of an application  for the mapping of pipeline products that can support Country Strategies and more generally country level agendas.
  • Help with the coordination of generation and implementation of knowledge agendas at the country level.
  • Support the organization of key meetings and events, including the Annual Meeting of Country Economists, internal knowledge exchanges, and retreats and assist in drafting and reviewing technical documents and provide comments to ongoing workstreams.
  • Help coordinate collaboration with VPS and other Bank Windows, ensuring that regional and corporate knowledge priorities are effectively integrated.
  • Contribute to the work of the VPC Editorial Committee by identifying key themes and overseeing the administration of VPC blog content.
  • Participate and contribute in selected research  projects and contribute to the development of specific knowledge products.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field. A PhD in a relevant discipline will be an asset.
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in applied economic analysis, development policy, or knowledge coordination. Experience in multilateral development banks or international organizations is a plus. Ability to work independently and propose innovative approaches is highly valued.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
