About this position

We are currently looking for an economics specialist with relevant research, development policy or operational experience. Expertise in the development and implementation of research projects in migrations - especially in the areas of migration flows, efficiency analysis, evaluation of policies and interventions to promote appropriate utilization and high-quality programs in resource constrained settings. Experience in working with governments and other partners in migrations policy strategy formulation as well as experience in supporting implementation of sector modernization efforts in complex environments, who will collaborate to our migrations research program, strategy formulation and implementation and who will contribute to the operational work in Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop research and enhance quality, policy relevance, reach and influence of the economic and sector work carried out by the IDB in migration.
  • Be part on our efforts to articulate technically sound and compelling analysis on migration topics to shape policy dialogue on migration issues with government and non-government entities and development partners and to support the preparation of country, sector and regional strategies and technical assistance programs.
  • Promote collaboration between Migration Unit and other divisions and sector within the Bank in the creation and consolidation of knowledge work
  • Actively participate in networks with international organizations, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, and professional bodies to exchange relevant information, promote collaborative research initiatives and expand the influence of IDB on migration topics.
  • Participate in policy dialogue activities aiming to support the design and implementation of migration policies and programs that cut across multiple levels of government, private and public stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and preparation of operations with other team members and respective authorities applying the research lessons learned.
  • Participate on the dissemination of economic/sector knowledge and evidence-based best practices to benefit our member countries, help identifying target audiences and appropriate communication strategies.
  • Collaborate with and support the activities of the IDB Invest and IDB Lab, within the IDB Group.

 

What you'll need

 

  • Education: master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in economics, applied economics, social science, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: At least four years of relevant research, development policy or operational. Expertise in the development and implementation of research projects in migrations - especially in the areas of migration flows, efficiency analysis, evaluation of policies and interventions to promote appropriate utilization and high-quality programs in resource constrained settings. Experience in working with governments and other partners in migrations policy strategy formulation as well as experience in supporting implementation of sector modernization efforts in complex environments.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

 

Type of contract and duration

  • International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
