About this position

We are looking for an analytical, results-oriented, and highly motivated Evaluation Consultant. As an Evaluation Consultant, you will work under the guidance of senior staff in the Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE), contributing to evaluations focused on the development effectiveness of programs, activities, and corporate functions across the IDB Group, including IDB, IDB Invest, and IDB Lab

You will work in the Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE) at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). OVE is an independent evaluation office that reports directly to the Boards of IDB and IDB Invest. OVE’s work program includes Country Program Evaluations, Corporate Evaluations, and Sector and Thematic Evaluations. 

What you’ll do

  • Conduct desk reviews and structured analysis of project, portfolio, and institutional documentation.
  • Apply advanced statistical, econometric, data science, and artificial intelligence tools to collect, organize, analyze, and synthesize evaluation evidence.
  • Support interviews, surveys, case studies, and other data-collection activities, and triangulate evidence from multiple sources.
  • Prepare analytical outputs, background papers, data visualizations, and other evidence products for evaluation reports.
  • Assemble, analyze, and present core evaluative information to prepare specific analytical pieces and background papers as inputs to evaluations.
  • Contribute to the development of evaluation findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor´s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Public Policy, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of relevant work experience, including:
    • Economic development, with a focus on contributing to rigorous analytical work and/or evaluation reports.
    • Private-sector or non-sovereign financial investments.
    • Experience with different financial instruments such as debt finance, private equity, venture capital, and guarantees, is particularly desirable.
    • Analytical skills, including proficiency in quantitative research methods.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of information on complex topics.
    • Critical thinking and exceptional writing and verbal communication abilities.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to deliver high-quality analytical work on time
    • Candidates should possess in depth knowledge of one or more development topics and a good understanding of private sector finance or of public sector policies. 
    • Familiarity with or experience in Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) is a strong plus. 
    • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment are essential.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

  • International consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility
