About this position

The CMF division works to strengthen the capacity of the public financial sector to mobilize resources and catalyze capital for development. We focus on effective capital market development and innovative financial structuring and solutions to facilitate private investment and ensure inclusive and sustainable development.

We are looking for a financial sector consultant with relevant academic experience in several financial sector topics to coordinate the identification, prioritization, production, and dissemination of knowledge at our division.

What you’ll do

- Coordinate the production of key knowledge products, including research papers, technical notes, flagship publications, among others.

- Contribute directly to the production of rigorous, policy-relevant knowledge products, dedicating approximately one-third of their time to leading or co-authoring strategic knowledge outputs.

- Enhance the quality and ensure control mechanisms are applied so CMF knowledge products meet IDB standards, with a particular focus on Research and Development Technical Cooperations, Economic and Sector Work (ESW), and proposals related to development effectiveness and impact evaluations.

- Identify strategic knowledge gaps and propose actions to address them.

- Lead the preparation of the CMF Knowledge Plan, aligned with relevant sector and corporate priorities.

- Promote the use of CMF’s knowledge in the design and implementation of CMF operations.

- Support upstream technical work and the application of knowledge in relevant country policy dialogue and in technical financial dialogues.

- Engage with external stakeholders to foster partnerships and promote knowledge exchange.

- Monitor CMF knowledge pipelines, budget execution, and achievement of knowledge deliverables.

- Organize internal knowledge-sharing events and capacity-building activities for CMF staff and external audiences

- Provide regular updates and undertake tasks as determined by the Division Chief and the Sector Economic Advisor (SEA).

What you'll need

Education: Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or other field relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Proven track record on high-impact research and evidence-based knowledge translatable to policy advice. PhD degree is prefererable.

Experience:

(i) At least 10 years of relevant work experience in finance, economics, or related fields

(ii) Strong technical background and understanding of financial markets, public financial institutions, and financial structuring in development contexts

(iii) demonstrated experience coordinating complex knowledge projects

Languages: Full proficiency in English and Spanish (spoken and written) is required. Proficiency in Portuguese is a plus.
