About this position
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and creative Graphic Designer Specialist to spearhead a team of creative professionals in delivering innovative, high-impact communication campaigns. This role combines strategic leadership, creative vision, and project management expertise to drive the IDB’s storytelling and visual identity across diverse platforms. You will work with the communications teams and leaders and experts across the IDB as part of the Digital Team within the Communications Division in the External Affairs and Communications Department.
The Communications Division, reporting to the External Affairs and Communications Department, is responsible for the design and implementation of IDB’s strategic communications’ plans, offering advice, expertise, and tools for dissemination and communication planning and execution, to position IDB’s brand, work, and development opportunities in the Latin American and Caribbean Region with internal and external partners. In addition, it provides guidelines and advisory support on the standards of use of the corporate brand, internal communication activities, the external feedback system, and manages all communication channels including digital platforms, editorial content, and relations with the media, as well as the IDB community relations program.
What you’ll do
Enhancing our institutional communicational capacity and efforts in the Communications Division is a business priority for the Inter-American Development Bank, to better position the brand, reputation, and the impact of the Institution’s work in the Region; in that sense this position will provide:
Leadership and Team Coordination: Lead and coordinate a team of onsite and offsite creative professionals, fostering collaboration and maximizing their artistic potential to deliver impactful communication campaigns. Mentor and guide team members, promoting a culture of creativity, innovation, and professional growth.
Project Management: Coordinate and allocate team tasks effectively using agile project management frameworks such as Kanban or Scrum to ensure timely and efficient project delivery. Develop, document, and implement innovative workflows to streamline creative production, enhancing efficiency and reducing delivery times while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Research and apply industry best practices, ensuring the optimal use of resources and the documentation and continuous improvement of processes.
Campaign Development and Storytelling: Collaborate with sector or country communicators to define campaign concepts and compelling storytelling that align with the IDB’s mission and objectives. Build long-term audience engagement strategies, complementing promotional efforts with cohesive and impactful visual narratives.
Creative Design and Production: Develop, design, and produce key visuals, including infographics, document layouts, and other graphic assets, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines. Create highly engaging videos and related graphics optimized for marketing channels, including social media, paid media, email, and web (blogs and websites). Support the implementation of IDB brand guidelines across all creative outputs to ensure consistency and quality.
Collaboration with Paid Media and Email Marketing: Work closely with the paid media and email marketing teams (agency) to ensure campaigns are strategically designed and executed to deliver high business impact. Provide creative input and visual assets tailored to paid media channels to maximize reach and engagement.
What you'll need
Expertise in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects).
Strong understanding of agile project management frameworks (Kanban, Scrum) and experience applying them to creative workflows.
Exceptional storytelling and visual communication skills, with a portfolio showcasing innovative campaigns and engaging visuals.
Proficiency in creating videos, infographics, and graphics optimized for social media, web, and paid media platforms.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including communicators, sector specialists, marketers, and external agencies.
Knowledge of brand guideline implementation and experience maintaining visual consistency across diverse outputs.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
Education: Master’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, marketing, or a related field. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in the areas mentioned below will also be considered if they fulfill the experience requirements mentioned below.
Experience: For candidates with a Master’s degree, a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience is required. In the case of a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree is required, in lieu of a Master's degree.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration
International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
