IDB Invest is an international financial institution and the private-sector arm of the IDB Group, aiming to address development needs in Latin America and the Caribbean. IDB Invest's shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization to support a transformative business model, "Originate to Share," to attract greater private investment that drives development and climate impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. This will enable IDB Invest to nearly double its annual regional investments from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion.
IDB Invest is organized into six departments. The Finance and Administration Department (FNA) is responsible for supporting and contributing to the execution of the IDB Invest operational program and mandate in Latin America and the Caribbean through the delivery of efficient and effective corporate products & services, efficient human and financial resource mobilization, and effective financial planning and reporting, operating processes & robust policies.
About this position
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive with experience in Corporate and Investment Banking in Latin America or the Caribbean.
The Chief Financial and Administration Officer will report directly to the CEO of IDB Invest, be a member of the Senior Management Team, and oversee a team of five leaders: the Managing Directors of Treasury, Controllership (accounting, valuations, financial planning, budget, and administration and SLAs management), Operations, Technology, and (in a matrix-based manner) the Head of Human Resources, guiding them in delivering the IDB Invest mandate. A description of these five main functions follows.
- Treasury. The Treasury Division manages IDB Invest’s balance sheet: it raises the institution’s funding, invests and manages its liquid assets, provides treasury solutions to IDB Invest’s clients, and conducts asset-liability and capital management activities. The Division operates IDB Invest’s trading floor and manages strategic relationships with investors, rating agencies, and market counterparts. A key part of its mandate is the development of local currency solutions, a central pillar of IDB Invest’s new business model.
- Controllership. This division oversees accounting, financial reporting, valuations, financial planning & budget, and administration and Service Level Agreements management.
- Operations. The Operations Division oversees origination and supervision portfolios, provides guidance on internal policies and systems, and manages middle- and back-office processes. It also leads processes, redesign, and project management for the Institution.
- Technology. The division leads Digital Transformation and Modernization initiatives, driving the adoption of cloud-based platforms, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and institutional agility. It oversees the execution of technology roadmaps aligned with IDB Invest’s strategic priorities, ensuring robust cybersecurity frameworks, scalable IT infrastructure, and the integration of advanced data analytics and AI-driven tools to support business innovation and informed decision-making.
- Human resources. This team supports IDB Invest's human resources needs through a Service Level Agreement with the IDB’s Human Resources Department.
What you’ll do
- Ensure, in conjunction with the rest of the executive team, the financial sustainability of the institution.
- Develop the IDB Invest business plan with the senior management team and ensure its alignment with IDB Group priorities.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the five Managing Directors, supporting their strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
- Deliver quality corporate products and services that support IDB Invest’s operational work within planned schedules by focusing on the value that is brought to internal and external clients to effectively and efficiently achieve business outcomes.
- Provide best customer-focused solutions to clients, cost-effective transactional processes, and optimized business processes.
- Support the execution of IDB Invest’s operations and work programs using risk-based management tools and focusing on development results.
- Spearhead efforts are to allocate resources efficiently and to increase cost-efficiency and effectiveness. In this vein, overseas, the administration and management of IDB Invest’s financial and human resources, physical assets, and corporate services, and the deployment of these resources, as well as timely, realistic, and comprehensive resource allocation and planning based on IDB Invest’s priorities. This includes preparing the annual budget and reporting on budget execution.
- Ensure the timely and quality reporting of internal information to support decision-making and resource re-allocation.
- Manage highly skilled interdisciplinary and multicultural professionals to develop innovative and effective corporate support solutions and to strengthen the ability to effectively meet business needs as regards corporate areas. Ensures proper coordination among the functional areas within the Department, IDB Invest, and IDB to deliver efficient, flexible, and responsive service to IDB Invest.
- Stimulate knowledge-sharing and innovation of products and services in collaboration with the Products Department.
- Communicate results to internal and external stakeholders by providing timely and clear information on the Department’s and IDB Invest’s work and strategic initiatives.
- Lead transformation and change management efforts regarding the creation of a near-commercial overarching service-level understanding and environment between IDB Invest and IDB. Contribute to creating and fostering a culture focused on results by promoting behaviors that enhance the ability to achieve performance targets at the institutional, business, and individual levels.
What you'll need
- Education: An advanced degree (at least Master’s, MBA, or equivalent) in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, information systems, or other relevant fields.
- Experience: At least 15 years of relevant experience with a proven business track record.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
The successful candidate must have:
- A strong track record in managing and overseeing the complete scope of corporate services for complex operations, including the areas of treasury, accounting, valuations, financial planning, budget, administration, SLA management, operations, information technology, and human resources.
- Understanding of and experience with capital markets and capital market activity, including the mechanics of investments, funding, swaps, liquidity management, asset/liability management, and derivatives. Understanding and experience with valuation models and financial projections are highly desirable, as is an understanding of project finance.
- Substantial understanding of planning and executing financial strategies, and in formulating, implementing, and evaluating financial policy, instruments, and services, and risk management, with clear accountability for profit and loss.
- An understanding of the operational frameworks of corporate and investment banking and/or multilateral institutions (including their special governance, mandates, safeguards, and human resources structures).
- The ability to attract, select, and motivate talented and diverse staff; an outstanding, effective manager who models inclusive behaviors and promotes diversity.
- Capacity to plan and manage human resources and operations to achieve quality results in a productive and financially sustainable manner. Strong client service orientation.
- Demonstrated effective management and leadership skills. Solid change management experience in a complex environment is a plus.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to foster a cooperative work environment and work effectively with all levels of staff and key stakeholders across the IDB Group. This includes Management, members of the Board of Executive Directors, and various institutional committees, as well as outside stakeholders, such as rating agencies and partners, including but not limited to operations and technology vendors. Excellent networking, communications, and presentation skills, with particular ability to draft/present cohesive analysis and proposals on complex technical issues in simple, clear, and effective terms.
- Sound judgment and ability to develop creative, innovative approaches and solutions. Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, and analytical abilities. Effective monitoring of metrics and results.

Type of contract and duration
• International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
