About this position

The IDB INVEST, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, is a multilateral organization based in Washington, D.C., that is committed to the development of Latin America and the Caribbean through the private sector.

 

IDB Invest is seeking a Data Engineer Officer/Senior Officer with strong technical skills to join a team of staff and consultants in the data management and analytics office. The data engineer will work closely to implement large-scale data ecosystems, including data management, governance, and the integration of structured and unstructured data to generate insights leveraging cloud-based platforms.

 

The position requires a highly motivated and versatile candidate with strong technical knowledge and extensive data management skills in the latest tools and platforms to join the data team responsible for delivering technical solutions that provide business decision-makers with information upon which they can make more accurate and effective decisions across multiple domains. The data engineer's primary responsibility will be to use best-practice data integration techniques to connect data modelers and support the needs of data scientists and/or data-intensive analytical applications.

 

The Data Management and Analytics Unit is a team under the ITA Division responsible for defining and implementing the data strategy for IDB Invest.  

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and launch highly efficient and reliable data pipelines to move data and provide intuitive analytics to our partner teams.

 

  • Collaborate with other engineers and Data Scientists to discover the best solutions.

 

  • Diagnosing and solving issues in our existing data pipelines and envisioning and building their successors.

 

  • Building data pipelines to collect data and move it into storage, and preparing the data as part of an ETL or ELT process. 

 

  • Work with complex technical data stores such as relational databases, Azure BLOB, Azure Data Lake store, and DataBricks.

What you'll need

Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in computer science, data science, software engineering, information systems, or related quantitative field. In lieu of a Master's Degree a Bachelor's Degree and the below certifications may be considered:

Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional
Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate
Databricks Certified Machine Learning Professional
Databricks Certified Data Analyst Associate
Azure AI Engineer Associate

Experience: At least 4-8 years of experience in data warehouse design and implementation, analytics solutions architecture, data pipelines and integration for different types of information, such as traditional structured data and unstructured data for analytics.

  • 4+ years of experience working as a data engineer.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience working with the Databricks platform.  
  • Ability to design, build, and deploy data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support AI, ML, and BI
  • Great communication and collaboration skills
  • Loves thinking out of the box to solve challenges at an unprecedented scale.
  • Knowledge of data governance solutions, such as Collibra, will be considered a plus.

 

Functional expertise: [i] You are able to work in a high-pressure environment while juggling multiple tasks, and effectively prioritize tasks, [ii] you are able to understand and translate clients’ (business units) needs into solutions, providing services that meet clients’ expectations for quality and performance; [iii] you listen actively, obtain necessary input, share ideas, speak persuasively, and convey information in a clear, objective, and concise manner.

 

Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is preferred.

Citizenship: No requirements
   

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
