About this position
The IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic and client-oriented individual to support the investment officers in our fund of funds strategy as part of its Investment Unit team in headquarters.
You will work in the VCI Division (LAB/VCI) at IDB Lab, responsible for originating and managing the portfolio of reimbursable operations. (LAB/VCI) has a systemic role of filling key funding gaps, bridging key connections in different fields (e.g. public and private) and mobilizing key ecosystem resources to support specific ventures with outstanding socioeconomic or environmental impact potential. IDB Lab adds relevant value to those ventures during their business consolidation and initial expansion and fosters their impact towards solving some of the most pressing development and inclusion challenges of different sectors in LAC (Fintech, Edtech, Healthtech, Agtech/Biotech, etc).
What you’ll do
- Coordinate efforts of roll-out and implementation of IDB Lab scouting and screening (process, “Call for Proposals”, in close support and coordination with the leading Investment Officers as well as other internal teams. This may involve activities such as deck analysis, call and/or meet with prospects and evaluate investment opportunities.
- Assist the LAB/VCI team in investment due diligence analysis, project documents preparation, and other approval processes, in close coordination with other teams such as Legal, Institutional Integrity, Development Effectiveness and Environmental and Social Team, among others.
- Support the supervision of the portfolio of operations and assist the team in the portfolio management of projects under execution in IDB Lab´s fund investments portfolio.
- Prepare periodic reports extracting lessons and perform detailed analysis of the proposals received through the Call for Proposals, identifying findings and trends regarding: 1) GP profile (track record, past returns), 2) target markets (primary/secondary), sectors and stages, 3) fund size vis-a-vis fund investment strategy/geographic focus, 4) approach for gender and diversity, 5) fund terms & governance, 6) business and impact KPIs, among other relevant aspects.
- Support the execution of knowledge sharing/development and connection related activities, such as the organization of IDB Lab´s annual Fund Managers Meeting, production of thematic studies, funds´ portfolio evaluation, update the database of contacts, among others.
- Support IDB Lab’s Chief Investment Officer and Investment Officers in the creation of any strategic guidelines and documents for the fund investment strategy.
What you'll need
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (in areas related to Finance, Business, or related field). CFA will be highly valued.
• Experience:
-
- At least 2 years of experience in investments, preferably venture capital, with relevant transactional track record (including the preparation of Investment Memoranda, presentation to Investment Committees, terms and conditions negotiations). Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean will be highly valued.
- Work experience in top-tier venture capital and private equity funds, startups, or M&A, with LAC exposure, is a strong plus.
• Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is required; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
Requirements

Type of contract and duration
International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
