About this position
IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic, experienced, solutions-driven and client-oriented Private Mobilization Innovative Finance Officer to join the Countries, Private Mobilization and Institutional Engagement (CMI) team based in Washington, D.C.
CMI leads mobilization and partnership efforts at IDB Lab in coordination and collaboration with the IDB Lab’s business teams and the IDB global partnerships department.
The role will report to IDB Lab’s Chief Countries & Private Mobilization Officer (Chief Officer) — a member of IDB Lab’s management team—, and will play an important role in scaling up mobilization volumes, deepening partners’ engagement, and positioning IDB Lab as a key mobilization actor for ecosystem building grants and venture assets in Latin America and the Caribbean.
IDB Lab is the innovation and venture arm of the IDB Group (https://bidlab.org/en). It fosters innovation and disruptive technologies to: i) benefit populations living in poverty and vulnerability; and ii) activate new industries for future sustainable growth. IDB Lab recently received a replenishment that calls for higher development impact and increased third-party mobilization with focus on the private sector, among other objectives and results.
What you’ll do
Under the leadership and guidance of the Chief Officer, the Private Mobilization Innovative Finance Officer will:
- Support the development and implementation of IDB Lab’s mobilization and partnership efforts, in coordination and collaboration with the IDB Lab’s business teams and the IDB global partnerships department.
- Champion the conceptualization, structuring and development of innovative mobilization arrangements and products tailored to the venture capital and ecosystem building space, including the piloting and testing of novel mobilization schemes and the adaptation of existing development finance tools to the unique characteristics of IDB Lab’s innovation and venture business model.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with local, regional and global mobilization partners —aligned with IDB Lab mission and risk appetite— including impact investors, foundations, family offices, financial institutions, sovereign and quasi-sovereign donors, development finance institutions (DFI), global funds and other stakeholders (Mobilization Partners).
- Design and conduct targeted outreach programs with Mobilization Partners to deepen their understanding of IDB Lab’s value proposition and co-financing opportunities.
- Lead other tasks as my be required by the Chief Officer.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in finance, business administration, economics, international development, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least four years of relevant professional experience, preferably five years of experience, in structuring mobilization, partnership and co-financing arrangements oriented towards venture debt and venture equity co-financing, and innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem building grants.
- Understanding of, and experience in, structuring innovative mobilization arrangements, fundraising, development finance, impact investment, venture debt and equity, blended finance, concessional finance, and donor relations.
- Work experience in Latin America and the Caribbean; and in a multilateral development bank, DFI, impact investor, or international financial institution.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with public and private donors, partners, investors and other external and internal stakeholders. Proven ability to negotiate with such donors, partners, investors, and stakeholders.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, impact-oriented environment, within complex organizations that balance multiple objectives.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of Portuguese or French is an asset.

Type of contract and duration
• International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
