About this position

IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic and client-oriented individual to support third party private syndication and co-investment of resources for loan and equity operations as part of its Venture Capital Investments (VCI) team in HQ.

 

The Venture Capital Investments Division (LAB/VCI) at IDB Lab is the division responsible for originating and managing the portfolio of reimbursable operations (equity and debt).  VCI has a systemic role of filling key funding gaps, bridging key connections in different fields (e.g. public and private) and mobilizing key ecosystem resources, from climate related funding to gender and diversity funding, to support specific ventures with outstanding socioeconomic or environmental impact potential. IDB Lab adds relevant value to those ventures during their business consolidation and expansion and fosters their impact towards solving some of the most pressing development and inclusion challenges of different sectors in LAC (Fintech, Edtech, Healthtech, Agtech/Biotech, etc.).

What you’ll do

The main functions of the Syndication and Co-Investments Officer / Private Finance Operations Specialist will be to: 

 

  • Build the loan syndication and equity co-investment strategy to mobilize private sector resources to venture capital type of deals led by IDB Lab, in coordination with CIO.
  • Structure and package loan syndication or equity co-investments, determining the terms and conditions, pitching the opportunity to potential lenders or co-investors and securing commitments, ensuring the deal is finalized and that the syndicate or co-investment is properly structured. 
  • Lead the development of relations and partners engagements for syndication of loans and co-investment of equity, in coordination with the respective Investment Officers, Portfolio Officers and CIO, setting a list of partners to circulate deals to.
  • Ensure the correct accountability of loan syndication and equity co-investments as core mobilization.
  • Work closely with the Finance, Resource and People team to process, record and collect the associated closing fees.
  • Monitor the loan and equity’s performance, providing reports to partners, in coordination with Portfolio Management.
  • Maintain and update the list of Syndication and co-investment deals in coordination with Portfolio Management.
  • Engage GPS as a lead counterpart whenever a GPS-managed partner is part of the mobilization effort.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in Finance, Business or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. A CFA certification will be highly valued.
  • Experience:
    • At least four years of relevant transactional experience, preferably five years of relevant experience, in equity and debt operations in a financial provider institution (investment banking, commercial banking, or corporate finance), with relevant track record in mid-to-senior roles. Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean a will be highly valued. 
    • Expertise analyzing and/or monitoring complex financial conditions.

 

  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

•   International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
