About this position

We are looking for a forward-thinking, proactive, and highly motivated Knowledge and Learning Senior Associate. As a Senior Associate, you will contribute to our operational and sector work program in Latin America and the Caribbean, supporting the systematization and curation of impact evaluations and empirical evidence in different thematic areas, the construction of knowledge indicators, and the Bank's digitalization agenda.

Within the Vice Presidency of Sectors and Knowledge (VPS), the Knowledge and Learning Division (KLD) collaborates with organizational units across the IDB Group to make the organization's explicit and tacit knowledge accessible, visible, and easy to reuse; generates knowledge products that facilitate and improve knowledge management in the Bank and its operations; and promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing among staff and different external audiences.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the construction and implementation of Evidence Gap Maps within the IDB, and other initiatives that facilitate evidence-based decision making. This support includes the systematization and curation of literature from the IDB publications catalog and various external sources, as well as ongoing work and dialogue with members of other Bank units and other organizations.
  • Coordinate with technical units across the Bank to promote effective collection, systematization and sharing of impact evaluations and other analytical knowledge that emerge from operational experience and development practices in Latin America and the Caribbean and from different funding initiatives, such as the Development Effectiveness Intelligence Fund.
  • Contribute to the measurement of the Bank's knowledge influence indicators through the calculation, interpretation, and continuous improvement of different indicators, and the continuous collection of existing and novel data.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of the Bank’s operational and knowledge portfolio by providing econometric and statistical analysis through managing, reviewing, and cleaning large databases.
  • Support the design of the IDB Group Knowledge Platform and other knowledge management tools concerning knowledge products and functionalities linked to academic and policy literature (including impact evaluations, evidence gap maps, publications, etc.), delivering relevant and timely knowledge to the Bank's employees and project executing units.
  • Provide input to the systematization and sharing of analytical and operational knowledge to contribute to the effectiveness of IDB’s financed operations.
  • Support the implementation of a knowledge management framework with the application of a knowledge maturity model across different units in the organization.
  • Support outreach efforts to external institutions, including academic, public, and private institutions, NGOs, think tanks, and other international organizations working on development issues to establish partnerships and share validated and state-of-the-art knowledge management tools, processes, and methodologies.
  • Work with the different KLD teams to prepare knowledge products, including lessons learned, databases, publications, or dissemination initiatives, such as presentations, blogs, executive summaries, and other materials.
  • Identify best practices, benchmarks, and emerging trends in knowledge management, metrics, and technologies from external sources. Stay up to date with innovations and developments in knowledge-related tools and methodologies, ensuring the Bank remains at the forefront of global practices.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in economics, public policy, international development, data science, knowledge management, or a similar field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in the following areas:
  • Demonstrating strong knowledge of impact evaluations and applied economics research.
  • Working on development projects and operations for multilateral organizations.
  • Utilizing advanced data skills, including data cleaning, visualization, and extracting/manipulating data from diverse sources. Knowledge of Stata and Python is preferred.
  • Applying strong analytical skills in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
  • Preparing and delivering clear, engaging presentations and effectively communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Languages:  Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab. 

Type of contract and duration

  • International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
