About this position
The Institutions for Development Sector (IFD) at the IDB is currently looking for a highly motivated, analytical, and solution-oriented individual to be an Operational AI Solutions Consultant, reporting directly to the Sector Strategic Advisor of IFD.
As an Operational AI Solutions Consultant, you will design and implement solutions to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality in the preparation and review of institutional documents and processes. These solutions will be mostly based on AI-enabled tools, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and bounded agentic workflows, within the Microsoft Copilot ecosystem, among other relevant AI tools and platforms, to support document review, consistency checks, and analytical tasks.
You will work in IFD, a multidisciplinary team dedicated to strengthening institutions that are essential for the region's economic growth, the reduction of poverty and inequality, and the effective response to environmental challenges. Its work covers key institutional areas such as governance; public sector strengthening and reform; decentralization; fiscal policies; capital markets and financial institutions; and citizen security and the rule of law. IFD has four divisions: Fiscal Management, Institutional Capacity of the State, Citizen Security, and Connectivity, Markets, and Finance.
What you’ll do
- Analyze and understand existing internal processes and workflows to identify opportunities for AI-enabled improvements, and propose practical solutions aligned with institutional needs and constraints.
- Design and prototype AI-enabled solutions, including RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) tools and bounded agentic workflows, to support internal analytical and review processes, using relevant and approved AI platforms and tools.
- Develop RAG-based solutions to retrieve, structure, and analyze internal documentation, templates, and reference materials.
- Support the identification of inconsistencies, logical gaps, and alignment issues across institutional operation documents (e.g., templates, theories of change, objectives, and results frameworks).
- Design and implement scoped agentic workflows with human-in-the-loop controls to assist in document review and analytical tasks.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate business needs into practical AI-supported workflows.
- Contribute to the definition of standards, documentation, and best practices for the responsible internal use of AI tools.
- Support knowledge transfer and capacity building within the team to promote sustainable adoption of AI-enabled solutions.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Applied Computation, or related quantitative or technical fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in data-driven solutions, advanced analytics, or software development.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration
- International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months).
