About this position

The Disaster Risk Management Unit (CSD/DRM) conceptualizes, prepares, supports the execution, and supervises the Bank's operations in the field of disaster risk management. Additionally, it is responsible for the Bank’s Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Policy in relation to its core processes: (i) risk identification; (ii) risk reduction; (iii) preparedness for response; and (iv) planning for recovery and reconstruction processes. It is important to highlight that countries consider the Bank a strategic partner that, in addition to channeling financial resources, can contribute technical knowledge and lessons learned in the execution of risk management projects. The Bank conducts research aimed at generating data and developing tools that our clients can use to implement more effective public policies for disaster prevention.

To ensure proper adoption of these tools, it is essential to carry out thorough quality control at each phase of the processes of definition, development, and dissemination. Delays in these processes, content oversights, excessive technical language when the target audience consists of non-expert decision-makers, or the use of inappropriate or untimely dissemination methods or opportunities are some of the factors that can jeopardize the achievement of the main objective pursued by these knowledge products.

The consultant will be part of the multidisciplinary team of the Disaster Risk Management Unit, which is made up of specialists and expert consultants in various fields related to DRM (economics, geology, engineering, architecture, environment, etc.), as well as administrative and procedural support staff from the CSD/DRM uni

What you’ll do

· Support in processing, managing, monitoring, and following up on the Bank's technical cooperation and operations managed by CSD/DRM related to operational aspects to ensure the expected results.

· Process requests for consultancy firm contracts financed with Technical Cooperations managed by the CSD/DRM team at HQ and carry out the necessary follow-up and monitoring.

· Assist in requesting payments to individual consultants and consulting firms for technical cooperations executed by the Unit.

· Conduct financial monitoring of the technical cooperations carried out by the CSD/DRM Unit at HQ.

· Follow up on the delivery of studies and consulting services that generate knowledge about disaster risks to ensure their timely delivery.

· Provide administrative support in organizing workshops, forums, and other dissemination spaces for the knowledge products developed, involving experts in DRR from the Bank or partners.

· Provide administrative support in designing new knowledge products, assisting in the quality review of the relevant documentation.

· Contribute to the formatting and content adjustments of DRM information platforms of IDB, aiming to improve their final quality and make them more attractive to the end user.

· Any other activity required to facilitate the swift and effective achievement of quality results in the knowledge and operational tasks of the DRR unit.

What you'll need

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in International Development, Business Administration, Economics, Project Management, or other relevant discipline or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. 

•    Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in in monitoring, follow-up, and/or project administration. Experience in quality management and accountability of projects with local or international funding will be valued. 

•    Languages:  
    -    Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

•    Consultant:  
    -    International consultant: International consultant Full-Time, 18 months (up to 36 months).  
If international, Headquarters (Washington, D.C), whereas if national 100% remotely from place of residence of selected candidate and services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
