About this position

The Competitiveness, Technology and Innovation (CTI) Division of the Productivity, Trade and Innovation (PTI) Department, supports Bank operations in the areas of Science and Technology, Competitiveness and Innovation, as well as entrepreneurship to strengthen development in the region and promote specific projects that foster national, regional and sector innovation systems.

The PTI/CTI Division provides funding, technical assistance, and knowledge products to support governments in key action areas such as firm-level innovation, entrepreneurship ecosystems, green innovation, digital transformation, creative economy, social innovation, and productive development. IDB programs in these areas incorporate common themes, such as training in science, technology, and innovation for advanced human capital; strengthening scientific and technological infrastructure; designing public policies to promote innovation; and strengthening the institutional capacity of the agencies and ministries responsible for implementing these policies. The Division is also responsible for preparing and implementing the Bank’s Strategy and action plan in all the above-mentioned areas.

We are looking for a dynamic and competent Operational Analyst who will assist the PTI/CTI Division throughout the preparation, processing, and execution of the Bank’s operations (including loans, technical cooperation, knowledge products, and project completion reports), among other efforts related to the position.

The Operational Analyst will provide analytical and operational support to ensure the smooth delivery, tracking, and monitoring of the assigned projects. The primary objective is to assist in project planning, processing, reporting, and evaluation, ensuring that all milestones are met within scope and time.

What you’ll do

  • Assist and contribute to the preparation and execution of lending operations and technical cooperation with critical thinking.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities within the Division, including the drafting, proofreading, and processing of operational documents. These include Results Matrices, Environmental Safeguard Screening and Classification Forms, and Environmental and Social Strategies (ESS), among others.
  • Analyze project data and prepare relevant information, and/or metrics that could support the operational processes.
  • Manage the project’s documentation accurately, with quality and consistency, including scope, objectives, and deliverables, aligned to the IDB’s policies and procedures.
  • Identify risks and issues and assist in developing mitigation mechanisms during the operational tasks and deliverables.
  • Analyze and support to keep a healthy alert report of technical cooperations.
  • Learn and understand the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Bank to effectively perform each of the processes under responsibility.
  • Support in organizing meetings, workshops, and presentations, as well as all administrative tasks involved in the assigned portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Division’s Operations Coordinator to assist in monitoring the division’s operations. 
  • When needed, work closely with the Division’s Resource Planner to assist with corporate requirements.

What you'll need

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, industrial engineering, or any other related field relevant to the responsibilities of the role.

•    Experience: At least three (3) years of progressive and relevant work experience in assisting projects.

Previous experience in multilateral organizations and in Competitiveness, Technology and Innovation projects is a plus. 

•    Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

•    International Staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
