About this position

We are looking for a service-oriented, dynamic, and motivated professional to join our team as Operations Senior Associate to perform technical and analytical activities to improve the quality of the Department's operational products.

You will work in the Institutions for Development as part of the IFD Front Office, you will collaborate closely with operations teams, contributing to the quality and effectiveness of the Department’s loan project proposals, enhancing the performance of its loan portfolio, and advancing IFD’s operational agenda across its areas of work.

What you’ll do

Conduct technical reviews of IFD’s sovereign-guaranteed operations presented to the Eligibility Review Meeting (ERM), Quality and Risk Review (QRR and post-QRR), Operations Policy Committee (OPC), and Board of Executive Directors. This includes ensuring operations meet the technical quality and policy standards of the Department and the Bank, with special attention to institutional/financial/economic analyses, project management tools, risk assessment, risk mitigation, overall document quality including a clear theory of change/program logic, development effectiveness framework including the definition of clear objectives, quantifiable and precise indicators, and adequate monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

Provide technical and operational support to project teams in institutional strengthening operations in areas such as transparency, digital governance and innovation, fiscal management, public expenditure, sustainable financial opportunities for SMEs, citizen security, and justice.

Support portfolio supervision by monitoring execution progress, resolving implementation challenges, providing periodic status updates to management, and facilitating coordination between IFD divisions and project teams to enhance portfolio performance.

Contribute to management initiatives to improve operational effectiveness through data gathering, analysis for pipeline and portfolio management.

Prepare inputs and analytical reports to support pipeline monitoring and portfolio execution throughout the project cycle, identifying key findings and providing actionable recommendations for IFD Management and Divisions.

Provide research, technical, and operational support for other Departmental priorities, as requested by the supervisor.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in economics, public policy, public administration, international relations, political science or related field, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  

•    Experience:3 years of relevant (Preferably 5 years) applied professional experience, with a strong background in project design and/or management, evaluability, monitoring and evaluation. Experience in LAC's public sector and/or international development organizations is highly desirable. Knowledge of IDB policies, instruments, procedures and systems is also highly desirable.  

•    Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

•    Staff: International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
