About this position

We are looking for a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven consultant. As a Strategic Engagement Support Consultant in the Social Sector Department (SCL), you will support the sector’s management team in strengthening its contributions across the IDB’s flagship initiatives and global development fora. In doing so, you will help increase the IDB’s regional impact and reinforce the relevance of the social sector.

SCL’s work spans education, health, nutrition and population, migration, social protection and labor markets, as well as gender and diversity. You will be based in the SCL Front Office, supporting the management team with its engagement in global development events, including the G20, the Global Alliance for Hunger & Poverty, COP, and the Heads of MDBs summits. You will also contribute to SCL’s strategic positioning and visibility in core IDB initiatives such as Ready and Resilient, Security Alliance, BID Cuida, Amazonia Forever, América en el Centro, One Caribbean, and related cross-cutting agendas.

The SCL management team is responsible for setting the Department’s strategic direction, ensuring visibility and impact in corporate initiatives, building alliances with key global partners, and positioning the Department’s contributions in high-level international fora.

What you’ll do

  • Support SCL’s management team to identify and systematize opportunities for SCL contributions across corporate IDB initiatives and external platforms.
  • Support the development and management of alliances with strategic partners.
  • Convene and coordinate internal SCL teams to prepare integrated inputs and contributions.
  • Draft timely talking points, background briefs, reports, presentations and outreach materials for SCL senior leadership.
  • Track deliverables and results across initiatives, ensuring follow-up and consistency.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports and knowledge products to capture lessons learned.

What you'll need

•    Education: Master’s degree in economics, public policy, political science, international relations, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. 

•    Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in international development, strategic partnerships, analytical work in the social sector or related fields. Proven experience in multilateral organizations or global fora is highly desirable. Experience supporting analytical work in the social sector or related fields, including contributing to studies, reports, and evaluations using quantitative and qualitative data. Demonstrated ability to analyze datasets, identify trends and insights, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for decision-making and strategic positioning.

•    Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration

•    Consultant: International consultant: International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
