About this position

We are looking for an experienced, strategic, and innovative Systemic Risk Specialist to join the Strategic & Multi-Factor Risk Management (SRM) Group within the Office of Risk Management (RMG) at the IDB.

This role will be at the intersection of advanced data science, institutional knowledge of the IDB, and process improvement and change management. The selected candidate will lead the design, development, and implementation of early-warning systemic risk frameworks, including data-driven risk models, AI/NLP-based analysis, and automated dashboards, while overseeing SRM’s data governance framework (including Power BI workspaces and underlying data structures).

What you’ll do

  • Automate risk reporting and monitoring: Implement data pipelines and automation scripts (using Python, SQL, R, etc.) to streamline risk data collection, cleaning, and visualization processes.
  • Change management: Act as a change agent within SRM, promoting adoption of new risk tools, analytics frameworks, and process innovations.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate with internal units (Operations, Finance, IT) and represent SRM in Bank-wide business intelligence and data management initiatives.
  • Lead data governance for SRM: Manage access rights, workspace permissions, and version control for dashboards and data models. Ensure compliance with data governance protocols and collaborate with IDB Data Governance teams.
  • Develop and implement systemic risk analytics and models: Apply quantitative methods (e.g., machine learning, predictive analytics) over structured and unstructured data to identify emerging risks across IDB portfolios.
  • AI/ML/NLP projects: Design and deploy machine learning models (including NLP/LLMs) for risk trend detection, text analytics, and scenario analysis.
  • Design risk sentiment and survey analysis tools: Lead development of NLP/AI solutions for extracting risk perceptions from unstructured texts and institutional documents.
  • Institutional integration: Apply knowledge of the IDB project cycle, risk taxonomy, and operational structure to contextualize risk assessments and ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Knowledge sharing and training: Provide training and technical guidance to SRM staff on risk analytics tools, AI applications, and data governance practices.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree in data science, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5–7 years in systemic or non-financial risk management, data science, or analytics roles in complex organizations (multilateral banks preferred). Proven leadership in building risk frameworks, BI tools, and AI/NLP models for risk assessment. A strong understanding of IDB operations is highly desirable.
