About this position
We are looking for a versatile, proactive, and experienced general operations consultant. As an Implementation Consultant, you will provide operational and technical support and expertise to the Cities LAB by leading the design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of pilot projects and knowledge products, especially in areas related to urban planning, housing finance, and slum upgrading.
You will work in the IDB Cities Lab, part of CSD/HUD (CSD/HUD, reports to IDB Cities Lab Coordinator). The main objective of the Cities LAB is to promote civic innovation and urban experimentation in Latin-America and the Caribbean (LAC) cities through knowledge generation and sharing, and the implementation of pilots to achieve a more sustainable, inclusive, equitable urban development in the Region.
What you’ll do
- Manage operational, administrative, and strategic aspects of the urban innovation portfolio.
- Conduct technical dialogues with local authorities, consultants, and consulting firms to ensure adequate development of urban innovation projects.
- Structure, develop, and implement capacity building programs, such as training workshops and mentoring programs.
- Prepare knowledge products related to urban innovation, urban economics, slum upgrading, downtown revitalization, and housing policies, such as podcast series, publications, and learning materials.
- Accompany the technical dialogue with the private sector, IDB specialists, and LAC governments’ counterparts to promote the implementation of innovative urban solutions in LAC cities.
- Design, implement and evaluate technical cooperation projects related to urban innovation, urban development, and housing policies.
- Participate in missions and workshops related to the pilot project(s) of the Cities LAB, making technical contributions to the scope of the agreed commitments during them.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in urban planning, urban development, public policy, international development, or related areas.
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in project management and administration in LAC and in applying theoretical and practical knowledge in urban development and activities related to the Terms of Reference (TORs). Previous experience with international organizations, public sector and/or think tanks.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
